Received the coat. It was large, and then I fixed it a bit and now it looks much more workable.

Guys, this costume is amazing.

The breeches fit like real breeches, working drop front, working buttons, functional pockets HISTORICALLY ACCURATE SAGGY BUTT

The shirt looks like a thinner pauliepoos

The vest is thin, but the fabric texture is loads better than CB. Working buttonholes and pockets. No cincher in the back though.

Belts are laughable, but the baldric is appropriately sized and can be used as a pattern.

I had a couple historical reenactors that came in that night. They were impressed by the quality of the costume. The fabric is a weird woven fake raffia. It's definitely woven, and it's a good fake. The color's a bit dark. It's lined with a thin muslin material.

the coat is 100% polyester (I answered that on page 4)

I agree the shirt and pants would do well - the pants are thinner and less durable than CB, but a good color. I think everything would be a lot better after you replace buttons (or at least sew them down stronger)

The shirt has a DEEP V - like super deep - like I don't want to show off that much flat chest deep - but would work great on someone a tad taller than me (which UM or Jodo can attest, would be anyone...I'm a hobbit in real life)

The vest.... could work... but I am not going to jump and say it's better than CB, I have had both, so I like the CB better. But modded right - they would be on par. But yes, it would NEED a whole new back, new buttons and a ton of weathering.

Belts are not worth keeping even for fun.... give them to a skinny Santa Claus.

BTW, I sold my costume for $90 on the bay

I have not yet sewn the modifications, as they have to be modified more. The vest's pattern is a bit wider than CB, but the buttonhole trim and the pocket flaps are miles better.

Liar, so you just did one dart down the middle?

I have an issue with the shoulders sliding off.... but it may be my less than masculine build, I am hoping the wig covers most of the collar

so far, yes. One dart. Is that what it's called? I just brought the seam in...

I'm currently at the moment, not doing homework, and pinning the arms. There's quite a bit of fabric there, and the fabric is MUCH more durable than the CB. When I modded the CB, the fabric just unraveled.. So this coat should hold up to modding. I just ironed everything ..the entire coat looks like it can be modded beautifully. If only I knew how to use a sewing machine.

edit; I'm 5'10

I wonder how the actual frock coats and remakes fit their owners? Cristian, are the arms super tight? How do you get your shirt sleeves to fit within the coat arms?

Rockstar fit is not nonsense! It is the CODE! Or more like guidelines............... Laughing

Rockstar fit = tailored fit to ones body

Example: My OST waistcoat has a rockstar fit because ACME took custom measurements from me in person before he made it.

Example 2: My POTC frockcoat from YorDreem DOES NOT have a rockstar fit because back in the day he used a universal template and the measurements sent were not used and the sleeves had to be extended with more material. I.E. my armlength from shoulder to wristbone is NOT 22 inches! Sad

Well, Depp did model his character after Keith Richards...who is in fact...a rockstar. Might have something to do with it, lol.

My Yordreem coat has a rockstar fit, and it's one of the older ones, but my sleeves are about 23 inches long. Fits nice and tight across the shoulders, and the arms are a bit tight too. But I also washed the coat in hot water and threw it into the dryer and shrunk it up some, when I first got it.

Here's the result from today's sewing. I'm not planning on sewing anymore. I feel like my hands hate me. Such is the fate of a man who can't use a sewing machine, doomed to handsew for the rest of eternity..

I'm top heavy. 38 chest, 32 waist. My first sewjob on this was fantastic - rockstar fit, tight as a glove..but I couldn't move. Arms could not go out in front of me, so I had to undo all my work. Here's the ugly, yellow light framed result. The coat fits me snugly now, but not tight. It's snug enough that all the wrinkles disappear, but not tight enough to have tension stretch marks.
FunCostumes.com Frock Coat - Page 4 C1
FunCostumes.com Frock Coat - Page 4 C2-1
FunCostumes.com Frock Coat - Page 4 C3-1
I fixed those pesky wide arms, mojo. It's hard to explain, but if you stare at a yordreem coat picture long enough, you'll see that there's a way to pinch the arms in a way that still allow a large range of motion.
FunCostumes.com Frock Coat - Page 4 C4

Here's a small diagram of what I sewed, with arrows dictating the direction I pulled the fabric. To thin the arms, I pinched the fabric from the inside bicep from behind, and pinned it in place at a higher point behind the tricep. What that does is, instead of pinning it directly across, it creates some surplus fabric under the armpit which allows you to move your arms around. If you pin it directly across, instead of the way my red arrows dictate, your arms will be stuck to your sides. Back and forth movement would be possible, but nothing else.
FunCostumes.com Frock Coat - Page 4 Seww-1

I hope this helps guys. I'm excited to have this coat - it's an amazing find. Thanks Mojo, for discovering the coat on the RPFer Jack..I would have overlooked it completely.

STEP ONE: in coat overhaul, re-sew on all the buttons. So far 4 of these buttons have fallen off just through light handling.

STEP TWO: Took the center back seam and brought it in almost 2 inches - basically we made it fit my neckline - this brought the shoulders up on my frame and made the collar fit.

This was the only adjustment that we needed to make so that the coat fit well. We tried the side darts a few times and neither of them did what we wanted.
