Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Thank you Milo!!
I'm so excited too! Though a bit behind schedule... if I can get the corset done tonight I'll be good! It SEEMS simple enough, but those are the things that end up taking a million hours longer than expected. Like the trim on the brim of the hat. It took me 3 hours to cut all the leather pieces, pin them on the gimp ( 13 pins x_x ), sew the leather on, put biastape on the trim of the hat to hold down the fabric where I trimmed it in size and then sew the trim on.
BUT!
Hard work pays off!!! I was complaining about the hat being floppy and awful and as soon as I sewed the trim on ( and it only needed sewing along the top line!! ) it holds a magnificent curve along the edge! *o*
Now...WHERE ARE MY FEATHERS!? No, really..where are they... I feel like it's taking a million weeks for them to arrive. *impatient*!

double posting again.
look what I got in the mail today!
FEATHERS!!!
and I dyed my hair. It's not Penelope-dark but it's pretty freaking dark in person without a camera flash. It'll probably be lighter for the movie due to the sun and sea in Punta Cana but that's ok. I look kinda witchy if I go too dark.

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Thanks! I can't wait to see it all come together too. I'm super lazy so barely wear my contacts anymore and the only time I wore my brown ones was when I was blonde so it should be a very different look.
In the meantime, I need to get this thing finished. T_T It's dreadful. ( And looks wrinkly here, but once it's on and pulled tight, it flattens out nicely ). The middle section is just thrown on there right now, it needs some fancy stitching and whatnot.

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Double posting AGAIN!
What can I say? I've pretty much made this my own WIP thread.
AMAZING ANGELICA CORSET IS AMAZING!!! ... And almost done!!!! @_@
It's a little bit ripply, but hey, hers was too since it was a soft corset ( more like a wrap ) for the pirate in her belly at the time.
I'm still SO proud of it. I sewed on all of the leather strips individually, put some fabric strips up the front and on the sides where the gold gimp will be going, and I'm hand-embroidering some stitching along the edges of that ( or maybe sewing on some tiny black edging gimp, haven't decided yet ). The back does up with hook and eyes... which needs to be taken in a little bit more. And there's boning up the front and the side fabric sections.
THIS MARKS THE NEARING COMPLETION OF MY ANGELICA!
Fix up the shirt, make a temporary baldric and I'm ready to go!!!
ok. I'll just edit this time instead of triple posting...
tried most of it on tonight to see how it looks... lots to do still but I'M SO EXCITED!!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Here are some pictures from Disneyland tonight for the POTC's preview. Jack and Angelica came out for only a few minutes. These were taken by my sister as I didn't have my camera. The picture doesn't show it but the coat appears to be shaped in the front the same as the vest.
I will be back there on Friday, so hopefully the coat comes out too.

Looking great Aubree :]
I guess I'll post some of what I have as well?
I need to add the tassels to my shirt and shorten it some, and I'm waiting on more trim to come in for the brim of the hat. Gotta add the gold side trim for the cincher and then do some edging on it to put eyelets in and make it look nice and neat It's gonna lace up in the back, as opposed to hook and eye (or jersey -cough- Penelope -cough-). Also waiting on the back vest fabric, then I can put it all together. So excited.

All this progress is really looking great. I dare say it might even be time to start a separate Angelica category, since we've got so many devoted fans for her.

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Never too many pics! Looking great! I love your hat! Question for those of you who have made the cincher, whats the easiest or best way to sew the gold trim on? That's my first task upon getting home..at NYC airport on an iPad right now lol so excited to see all of our pics in full costume!! Oh and what is everyone doing for the belt and baldric? I was trying to get an acme belt in time but never got a reply for a rush order so it looks like I'll be winging it with sculpting all the bits. Thank goodness I bought enough leather belt strips for both just in case! Looking forward to sharing some fast progress in the next couple days! Let's keep at it ladies! ... And um who is making it for his lady! So close! Getting so so so excited!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Hey lady! I just sewed mine straight down the middle, I'd recommend gold thread (I painted mine a darker gold, so whatever gold tone it is you have) or invisible thread. Hope it helps!

Heheh!! They make for a fiesty pirate!
Also! Earring progress:
Need to get some goldish-brassish beads and a small red one, but I was playing around with what I have! I wish the web-cam was clearer, my bottom white bead is all misshapen like hers!! Excitement!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Just showing some details!
I changed the lace on my top! Before it was a crochet lace, but because I cut off the top few mm of it, it started to all become unraveled and fell apart. After HOURS of ripping out all of the seams, and then trimming down the top ruffle as well, I put on this new little scalloped lace. I noticed the scallops on the parks costume, however it looked too big and frilly so I trimmed mine down a bit there too.
Neckline
Sleeve cuff
Finished corset!!!! It looks nice and flat when it's on, no ripples or bubbles...but my dressform is too big to put it on and I'm working in my pjs today so no more try-on pictures until it's all done!!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Can I put your niece in my pocket and take her everywhere as my mini Angelica?! She's adorable. I daresay her vest will be better than mine!
Also - I like the hat, as long as you can doctor the brim a little to give it the right curves. Unless you don't really mind, in which case...even better! Either way, I think it's a good base :]

ha ha, it's my sisters build! She has some ideas for an improved version, so I invited her over to talk to you ladies. She is a seamstress and very crafty.

Hey! Where...How...Did she plunder that costume?!
She's a cutie!

Angelica delux kids cotume vest image
I bought the deluxe Angelica costume for my daughter so she could play Pirate with her cousin. I love costumes and discovered it is way cheaper and way less time consuming to make costumes for her to play in than myself. Here are some shots of it. I hope to make it a bit more authentic as far as more parts and upgrade some of the shotier parts, so it has a longer play life.

Well I hate to change the subject, but...
I need some opinions because this hat is a custom order and I want to make sure it's right.
I asked for this hat brim
With this crown
When I asked about the hat trim, this was their response:

I showed the pics to our designer, Longfellow, and he said making the hat itself - based on your pictures - would be no problem, but the hatband we couldn't do.He said the hat band and bound edge on the hat is very unusual and would be a time eater if we were to try to duplicate it. Sourcing the leather and making the hatband would take much longer to make than the hat itself. With movie productions the costume designers often spend days putting unique hatbands together for the stars hats.
