Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
what do I know? (ha ha) I've not studied the hat for hours on end. Charles might have a better opinion than I.... CHARLES!!!!!
Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
The brim is good but you would probably want to reshape with steam the bowl. Can they do that for you? I was in touch with Hatitude regarding a similar style hat but it was velvety felt. To shiny. I sent them pictures and they said they could make it out of beaver felt or wool felt. Never heard back from them after that but they said it wouldn't be cheap.
I saw ACME brands self made hat that he had molded from his hat block. Very nicely done and didn't cost much for the block. I plan this method sometime after the premiere!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
No it's a total custom. He's taking the crown from the seƱorita hat, and using the brim of the bandidas hat to make the Angelica hat. I sent pics, and he said he'll make it in 5x whatever that is???
By the way, thanx Charles & Mojo!
I'm off to order it!!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Just out of curiosity, what's he charging you for that custom design? My girlfriend has wanted a Ben Wade hat from the western "3:10 to Yuma" for ages, and that combo would be almost perfect for it.
As for the crown however, I'd say it's not quite accurate for Angelica. I got a couple really good looks at it at a pre-screening of the fiml last night, and I believe I can safely say that the crown is completely flat on top, and not at all pressed in.

^^Thanks for that bit of info Captain.
You can see why I want to make sure it's as close as possible!

For just the hat with a satin ribbon and bow and bound edge, your pricingĀ would be:
5X - 335.00
20X - 465.00
100x - 680.00

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
For as close as possible, I have no idea what style it would be called, but the bowl of Angelicas hat is smooth around the top and edges. There are no dents or bubbles ( i have no hat terminology ) or ANYTHING like that. It's literally just a... bowl... lol with a rounded squareish shape... God, I'm useless. LOL

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Haha, no worries, that totally makes sense. That's pretty much what I was saying above. Just flat, no indent.
And yeah, for that price I would want to get it as close as humanly possible too.

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
woah... sorry McC... i read the first part of your post and I think I jumped to Sparrowed's reply to see the price without reading the rest. Didn't mean to repeat what you said!
I am currently covered in spray paint, nail glue, hot glue, and gold permanent ink.
Alas, these are the measures I must take to finish my leather piece placeholders in time for Friday...
here's what they're looking like so far. FAR from SA but I think they'll get the job done.

Well without any sarcasm or fun-poking whatsoever (honest) I have to say that I am horribly, horribly offended
Anyway, your bits are coming out great! I find I'm becoming more of a fan of Angelica as time goes on, especially after seeing the film, so I'm pretty excited to see the progress on everyone else's costumes too!
Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
That picture of young Angelica was so cute .
Maybe there should be a kid's area. I have been helping a friend with her grand daughter's Angelica costume. Shakira is 10 and LOVES Jack Sparrow (hates Will - full stop). Before I left I did the majority of the work on her vest and corset as her grand mother (who is an excellent costumer maker) was swamped with other projects. I have been promised a photo when the movie opens on Thursday, so I will post it then.
Congratulations to aelyn000 for winning the vest contest, you got my vote as it was well deserved.
I have found the perfect hat, which just needs to be trimed and shaped. However as it was a lucky find, I just don't want to mess with it until I find a trim and buckle that is spot on.
Next project is the navy coat. Does anyone have any full length pictures?

ghetto-fab placeholder belt is ghetto-fab.
well... it might look ok in far away pictures.
it's all one piece... i put it over my head. i think im going to brush over the gold bits with some black to darken them up...especially the buckle. not that i particularly care since i plan on replacing it anyways...
i seriously can't wait to get an ACME belt...

I did but I can't remember where I found it... just google search for "Lyre buckle " ... the mini ones I found were VERY mini though... as in... for a 10mm belt. I didn't even know belts that small existed.

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Here's more progress! I've since shortened the vest just a little bit, so it's at my knees on the sides and not below 'em. I'm in my PJ's so I'm not gonna try it all on again
Yay! Tomorrow the trim gets attached and the back slits/ties happen.

BPearl, that's a gorgeous coat! Definitely my very favorite of the two.
Someone I know said they'd get me pics of the costumes, but haven't heard back from them. If I do, I'll surely post!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
i am mad.
i had to wash my hair every day on vacation to keep the salt water from drying it out and now the colour is light again.
new plan for friday: dye hair ( again ), go ring shopping in costume, and THEN go lurk the Falls and cinema.
that is all.
i need to go finish my placeholder baldric because i keep putting it off. @_@

No emails from him today... hopefully soon!!!!!!!! i can't even express my need for this fabric after seeing that metallic gold embroidered through it... SO PRETTY!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
I have the belt and Richard showed me how he made the baldric and the belt. He is truly a craftsman from the get go! That is why I toot his horn for the quality of his work.
Each one of the zig zag patterns on the belt and baldric are hand stamped along the entire length of the baldric / belt. That is true dedication to your craft!!!
FYI! I would get some leather rejuvenator and treat the leather. The leather is a bit dry after dying so it needs to be retreated to prevent cracking.
Any one of these leather conditioners will do fine:
http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/home/department/Liquids-N/Conditioners-N/Conditioners-N.aspx
After that use Water Protector Spray (available at Michael's or shoe store) and put on a light coating to protect the leather.
Just be careful on the gold area because he used a gold leaf pen to get the color into the patterns.
