My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
Since so many wenches are putting together the movie Angelica, I decided to try the concept art Angelica:
I've bought fabric for the corset, but so much of it, I could make a waistcoat:
I found two cavalier type hats, but I'm not sure of the color I'll go with:
Mini dagger:
And gorgeous boots!
Still looking for coat fabric, and an embroidered chemise. I do like pauliepoos AT chemise, but I'm still going to see if I can find an embroidered one.
Now all I need is a sack of doubloons and I'll be all set!!

OoOoh! I like those too... I'd pick whichever one would co-ordinate with the belt, myself. Whether you go with suede leather or smooth leather. Of course, mixing textures is very piratey too. I think I like the first style better with that mid buckle. VERY awesome.

Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
I really dig those hats. Very cool. That's more what I would have liked to have seen her wear in the actual film. Personally, I'd go with the darker brown color. I think it's got a more earthy, "piratey" look.
And those boots absolutely rock! I like the first pair you posted best, but the second pair are also pretty wicked.
As for the corset material... you could try making a corseted waistcoat, haha... that would certainly be a challenge that nobody I know of has attempted.

Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
Thank ye!
I do love the second pair of boots but at $450.00 I think I'll have to pass. They sure are pretty tho.
The first pair I like a lot too and they're less money. I also think they will go with my OST wench Jack costume I'm putting together!

Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
***IF these pics are too big, please let me know, and I'll post links... I'm on my phone these days, and I can't tell.***
Today I was out shopping and I found this fabric that I think I like "much more bettah" than the first one. They do look similar but really they are not.
Any thoughts on this pattern ^^

????
While at Joann's, I also found this linen in a dark chocolate brown (altho it doesn't look that way in the pic) for the coat...or should I go with something heavier???
I also dug into my costume hold and found this which I will use as my pattern for a waistcoat for this costume. I will have a corset made too, then see which looks best!

Fabulous Jacket! I want to do one for myself (if I only had the time!!) Although, I would say it is done in a chocolate brown suede leather, with the turnbacks on the front non suede.. I've done a simliar style for a mans .. would do a cross between the two I think!
Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
As for the hat, I don't know how into hat making your are, but that exact one would be really easy to replicate using a base like this:http://www.millinery.uk.com/hoods-materials/hoods/mixed-rush-straw-capeline/prod_116.html
Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
Don't like the long waistcoat.
And it seems the belt maker bailed on me.
Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
At first I was taken aback, but the more I look at it, the more I LOVE it. It has a very strong Spanish elegance to it! I just find it weird that the corset goes over the waistcoat... well... actually, there's a lot of weird things about it and that's just one. But it's very unique and it's definitely something I'd like to make too! I'm looking forward to seeing your take on it, Sparrowed, what you stick with and what you choose to change up. Either way, it's fantastic inspiration for what's sure to be a beautiful pirate getup!

Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
Thanks aelyn.
I found some boots...
Unfortunately, not in my size. So, unless I can find these elsewhere, I'll be cramming my foot into a size smaller boot.

Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
those are bad @$$ - you could totally go steam punk with those
Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
Heck yeah! Those things are wicked awesome! Where'd you find them?
Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
Thanks, they were the only ones that I could find with those tabby things on the side. I haven't bought them yet, I'm still looking but here's the link:

What I'm worried about is that blasted "whateveritis" under her coat.
Is it an open chemise? A waistcoat? Whaaaaaaaaaat?!

Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
Yeah... is that the biggest picture there is of it? Because it's kinda hard to tell at that size.
Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
Yep that's all I've seen.
I hope it'll be in the "art of" book coming out this week.

Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
My coat is almost done (...well sort of)
But sadly won't have it in time for NorCal
Anyways...A question: The back of the coat
Slit?
Pleats?
Triple? Single?
I think I like the triple pleats like Jack's coat, but im not sure if itll be too much with the keyhole sleeves and all those buttons...?
Also... Same color cuffs, lapels and pleats OR contrasting cuffs lapels znd pleats( if i go with pleats?)
OR again, too much??
Your thoughts?

I'd say slit back, no pleats... there's a lot of layers and length going on in her costume and I think the pleats would add distracting volume... though I guess if it's a single pleat it wouldn't be so much... but I imagine it being very clean cut and sleek on the back in contrast to all the detail, like you mentioned.
I'd do the same colour for cuffs with darker detailing... but lighter lapels. I think the contrast of the lighter lapels would make for a nice streamlined and flattering look drawing attention to the length of the whole costume whereas if they're the same colour as the coat, the focal point would be either the chunky belt or draw attention down to the skirt ...thingy...
Too bad about NorCal. I so want to see how this turns out. *_*

Re: My Concept Art Angelica Costume (WIP)
Thanks. In the pic it looks to be a slit. If she's making the coat knee length (minus that "thing") I think I may like a pleat, not three because you are right, I think it'd be too much.
But if she stays short true to the drawing, then probably a slit.
It's dark brown suede cloth, the good stuff. I was thinking a patterned tone on tone like ATs movie coat, but not in burgundy.
AYE! I most definitely will post pics.
She's been working on the coat, but I'm not sure if she's started the corsets yet.
Don't know what's happening with the hats...I haven't heard anything back since I paid.
Hey did anyone notice? The boots look like "bootcovers" ???
