Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
haha... I just posted it on their wall. I think they delete customer complaints cause the only posts on their wall are by them. About the only colour that turned out was the bright green... the dark green isn't even close. I can deal with the red being way brighter if the background was still dark green but it's like... faded black-brown. I can't believe it's so far off... I expected some colour difference but for the whole background to be black-brown instead of teal? come on...
Apparently they just say ' you shouldve ordered a swatch' or ' you shouldve downloaded our colour table' and stuff to that effect... but I have a hard time believing EVERYONE who orders fabric from them works with their colour chart and continuously orders swatches until it looks right.
Dealing with FoD now... going to order a swatch and if it's good, express order some from them. Otherwise I'm back to square one in having to redesign the whole image and only using colours that they say I can use. *sigh*

Another shot of the vest with my resurrected camera that doesn't have a blinding flash:
and the trim I'm currently inhaling pounds of velvet fuzz by threading for the vest...

cant wait to see this costume finished!.. you are doingg such a great job aelyn000! well done !
Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
If you have started cutting the fabric, I would set some scrap aside for testing. Wash one - dye one - etc see if you can tone down the bright colors and make it look more like Angie's.
Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
I thought about that but decided against it...the colours are a bit bright but I find in some pictures the background has a smidge of green and I don't want to lose that smidge to a complete brown or grey tone in an attempt to dull the print. I think I'll be happy with the vest as a whole once it's done. It will be as accurate as I can make it until I reorder the fabric with corrected colour. Besides, time is a tickin!!! With a week of vacation between now and the movie, I don't really have a lot of time to play around with dyes. Scary!!!

UM, do you like this turnout enough to want to use it for the film? I can link you it on spoonflower if you'd like. the colour is closer to the last picture i posted... darker than the comparison shot. My game plan is to make what I can with this, if I can get colour corrected fabric in time, great, if not, I'll do it after and sell these ones off. Of course, you could always take mojos suggestion and do some dye testing on top of how it prints out...

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Double posting again ... but I have updates!
Baldric ( and possibly belt ) leather came in today! I got 2 inch width and was worried it might be a bit narrow but oh my! It looks PERFECT for the width! And I must have a good eye for not measuring things 'cause the bits I've sculpted are wonderfully scaled so far! I'm so excited to see it all come together! What's even better, is that the length of the strip wraps around my shoulder and attaches diagonally at the hip in the exact spot a baldric should!! So happy with this. Just need to find something leather-like enough for the actual sword harness and attach that on and then paint up the decorations... in otherwords, everything else. Haha. Here's a shot of a bit of it coming together. I swear I spend more time taking pictures like these than working on the actual costume...
I didn't bother cutting the paisley SA since I plan on reprinting the fabric in more accurate colour and sizing and preferred to get 2 size small vests out of this 1 yard as opposed to one that I'd replace and just have wasted all the rest. I think it was a good decision on my part and will hopefully benefit me ( and some other ladies who might want to buy them ) in the future.
I think I've finally gotten the hang of this new camera...it seems to be capturing the colour a bit more true to life, but it's still not what I had wanted printed. And the paisley is a bit too big as opposed to what I wanted. But I think it's looking pretty darn good so far!
And these are the feathers I bought for the hat which are on their way!
They measure around 14" .. A couple longer, some shorter. And only $3.50! SCORE!
I remember going to a Pirate festival in the summer and some ridiculous vendor was charging $30 for ONE. LULZ.

This is coming together beautifully! Well done!
And in regards to the color, the more I look at it, the less I think it looks wrong. It's a little bright, sure, but if it fades just a little it should look perfect!

LOL Thanks again! Less wrong may not be SA-level-correct but at least it's a bit closer to good than bad, I guess?

Heh... right... perhaps that came out a bit wrong? At any rate, the whole thing looks beautiful! And overall VERY SA. Like I said, once it fades a tad it'll be dead-on

No no! I know what you meant 'cause I feel the exact same way about it. I think it needs a combination of fading and dirtying to lighten and darken it at the same time... this vest is a confusifying piece!
OH. I have the glove done too. But it photographs too brown so I'm going to dye it with a bit of grey or black to desaturate the rich brown tone. And the earring. Pictures of those later though!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Aubree! Are you going to use a gold hoop earring for the left ear? I'm still looking for one that isn't pierced!!
I think I will just wait until you say "color correct" your pattern since I am focused on all the leather parts.
Also what did you end up using to join your hat band trim together? I was looking for some bias tape to sew them into but have not been able to find anything resembling that material....looks like string or ribbon?
I just added a thin piece of metal wire in the seam of my AT hat and now you can bend and shape it all you want....works amazing!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Yep, I have an extra large gold hoop earring for the left. Sorry, I'm not much help in helping you out though since I have my ears pierced ( 2x ), it was an easy find for me. I think I'm still on the lookout for another though, since I think I saw somewhere that it looks like it's woven/braided as opposed to a solid hoop... may have dreamt it ( wouldn't surprise me ) but I'll have to look through my reference and double check...
Just so you know, I doubt I will have the colour/size corrected for the print before the movie. It's really, REALLY time consuming to work on and I'm trying to focus all of my energy on getting the actual costume done!! But it's quite simple overall ( the costume ) so if I manage to pull it together quick and get back to work on the print, I'll let you know.
For the hat band, I cut out teeny pieces of a synthetic leather ribbon and sewed them onto the backside of a gimp. In between I used gold cording that's attached to a bias trim for edging and whatnot. I sewed the top leather-striped gimp onto one, and the bottom on to the second, then sewed them together in the center... uhh... not really working with words here... I'll take some pictures and post them for you later tonight! The cording I used was kind of wide though so it didn't really give the look I wanted and I'll be changing that up when I can find some smaller more accurate stuffs.
Definitely going to need to put some wire around my brim. It won't hold the shape I want it to as it is right now. BOO. Though, I'm going to check out a costume shop for the felt musketeer hat first...

Aubree! You have been talking to yourself alot lately!
I found some yellowish gold piping trim that I am going to sew up together and attach the gimp too. Now I just need a buckle for the bloody hat!!!!

That's because there's not enough love for Angelica around here!!
I'm trying to upload pictures... I can't believe going from a 7mp camera to a 16mp camera has left me worse off. Seriously, this thing can't focus worth crap and the flash is only one level which washes out everything and the wide angle lens is STUPID. ugh. These 'auto' and 'intelligent program' cameras BLOW. And even though my other camera was resurrected, I can't find the battery charger for it now. >_< BLARGH.
Working on it...
Looking forward to seeing your hat!!! I haven't actually decided whether to go with the felt one or stick with the velvet one I have. I tried on the whole thing tonight and I think it might work. I'm just using the buckle that came with it with some clay around the edges to make the corners rounder... and then a paint job or two.
Anyways, please ignore the horrendous freaking colour due to expensive 'better' camera crappiness, i adjusted it a bit to make it more true to life since the flash made the back look BRIGHT. but here are a couple looks at the waistcoat so far.
front
side
back
It doesn't drape quite as nice as hers since the silk I used for the back is a bit stiff, but it has the same princess seams and the... rectangle thingies that I'll be embroidering the eyelets into for lacing and two slits up the princess seams. I could never tell if there was one up the middle as well but that seemed like too many. Upon further investigation, I may alter it, but I like how it is right now.
For the vest, just have to add the buttons, eyelets, back lacing and front ties then dirty up the back!! Tomorrow is Angelica day so I'm hoping to get the corset and hat done as well and have the bulk of it taken care of.
Oh, tomorrow is also HAIR DYING DAY! *yay*

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
yea, you need a color so dark that Raven's fly over and say, "Wow, that's black." You should have gotten "I am going to Goth Day" black.
Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
But her hair is only brown!!!
So I got dark brown which a warm chocolate-y hint to it. Then I plan on it getting the perfect colour from the ocean and Caribbean sun.
Angelica transformation starts tomorrow!!! Changing my hair, eyes and skintone... alls I need is the tattoo!!

Oh man, I'm brimming with excitement. Those pics look fantastic, and while Spoonflower fail hard, your waistcoat still looks awesome. A really promising costume so far, can't wait to see it with the tan and dyed hair
