First 1/2 of my weathering is done! I took some fine grit sandpaper block to my thread and it came out PERFECT!!!
Now to add some fading, sea salt, and dirty effects and I am ready to go go go!

That blue is unweathered. Once its weathered I think it will look closer to what is used on screen. I have some new pics of the Disneyland Jack's vest coming soon. Look for a post of my recent adventures soon.

Having owned ,and Acme OST waistcoat, it comes up lighter and darker depending on how the light hits it. Especially natural light. Based on those pics, it looks pretty heave ho close to to me. I took some decent pics of it in my eBay auction (yes, sadly, it's up for grabs). There's a link to it in this thread https://brethrencourt.rpg-board.net/t302-auction-acme-waistcoat-up-for-grabs-on-the-bay. (a little promotion never hurt nobody. Lol). Back on track tho, it's pretty close.

My personal opinion is that the ACME colours aren't all that close (although that depends on your definition of "close"), but that's only based on the pictures I've seen, and I'm basing on the spectrum of colours that show up in the varying waistcoats. The ACME base colour seems to vary from a almost greeny blue to a navy, whereas the screen one is from a navy to a purple colour. I'd be interested to see a close up of the ACME fabric under a natural coloured light bulb though as I do have a picture of the actual fabric in similar situation so it would be easier to compare like with like. As the actual fabric is a shot silk, so composed of two very different colours it's unlikely that any dyed fabric is going to be close to it though as it can't physically match two colours in one.

Hmmm... I'll see if I can dig up the pics I put on the eBay listing and post them here as well. I got some pretty good shots of the color variations. I see what you mean about the purple tho, having seen it in Hollywood, but I think once you weather it up a little bit you'll get some of that purple kinda like the previous waistcoat. (I don't know from experience tho, I haven't attempted to weather it at all). I think it's a pretty good base tho to start from. I have a question tho, what exactly is "shot silk"? I'm not extremely familiar with different types of silks.

Well, in simple terms I think it means that they use different colour threads for the warp and weft. I guess it's a bit like the frock coat fabric really, but all pure silk. From memory it's made up of navy threads and a very pale purple/lavender colour.
Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
Well I bought $26.00 worth of Nu Life (four cans) and tested out vanilla and camel colors on my swatch. I was very pleased with the results of both. No pictures because it wouldn't show up in man made light. The photo has to be taken in natural light to see the subtle differences.
I plan on taking the camel color and lightly spraying the area that is naturally weathered. That would be from the chest area down to above the pocket flap on both panels. Also maybe around the edges to show a little ware but not too much.
This waistcoat is not that weathered and probably appears more "salty dog" look to it!
Results on the boots with dark brown on the chocolate color were great. I tested under the bell for obvious reasons.
I will spray down the boots after I run over them with my car, light sanding, and possibly a trip to the sea whilst wearing them!!!

Throw the original words back in there along with the punctuation and it has the original meaning, savvy?
Are you me or the boots?

Acmes fabric is off to Damselinthisdress to be transformed into my corset set. All I have now are the photos that I posted previously, and these that were comparisons to the FG fabricButton It wrote:Jack of All Trades wrote:Having owned ,and Acme OST waistcoat, it comes up lighter and darker depending on how the light hits it. I have to agree with RedSleighDawn that the backside of the Fabric Guru material is closer to the thread style than the correct side. Unfortunately the design is backwards if you do that!!

Backwards? How so??Capn_Jack_Savvy wrote:I have to agree with RedSleighDawn that the backside of the Fabric Guru material is closer to the thread style than the correct side. Unfortunately the design is backwards if you do that!!
Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
does anyone have a link to the fabric guru product?
Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
Haha... That was gone within hours of my finding it. Shylaah has some of the FG fabric and sent me that swatch shown with Acmes fabric.

The pattern is not QUITE symmetrical. Subtle, but its definitely backward on the reverse side.

Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
Blast! I wish I had my Acme fabric in hand so I could look at it closer!
Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
really? I thought it was pretty symmetrical. I could be wrong tho. Got any reference pics showing this?
Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
Yeah, I'd like very much to see the reference pics.
From these pics it looks the same... The side that's darker has thicker embroidery. That's the only difference I noticed other than color.
Right side:
Reverse:

Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
Again, very subtle, but the pattern is asymmetrical. I think the reverse pattern may be worth the more correct color and stitching though.
