By the way did any Jack here blab and tell a women at a certain fabric store in Colchetser that they wanted the fabric for a JACK bloody SPARROW vest?....if so, thanks for 20% price increase and me now being unable to afford the only bundle she'd ever have.

Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
O.O Yeah... unfortunately, that's part of the danger of costuming like this. When someone doesn't know what they have, but then the word gets around, the price always skyrockets.
And as for the color... Well... I definitely agree with basically doing whatever looks right to you. It's all subjective. Personally, I've always thought that, on-screen, the stuff has a goldish hue. If I had only seen it once, and never looked closely at it with the intention of remembering exactly what color it was, my immediate thought would have been "gold."
That being said, I definitely see where you guys are coming from, in that it's not strictly gold, and it does pick up color around it. My original theory here was that it had a sort of coppery metallic thing going on, but now it's pretty plain that, just like previously mentioned, it's definitely not a metallic thread. So instead, let me posit this hypothesis:
I think Mojo may very well have been onto something when he said "champagne." The more I look at different pictures, the more it does seem like a sort of dirty champagne color. Which, in theory, would be somewhere between gold and tan, with some rosy undertones in certain lighting. At least, that's what I think of when I hear "champagne." Being most likely a synthetic thread (I think ButtonIt was the first person to mention that here... or maybe Christian... can't quite recall), it's going to be fairly shiny, and react differently under different lighting than a natural thread. Hence, it really will pick up reflections of what's around it. And just the fact that it's shiny at all is going to make it look "gold" under certain lighting, because of the level of light reflection.
Ultimately, the only way anyone can be absolutely certain is for that person to look at the screen-used fabric with their own two eyes (because photographs are always misleading in one way or the other), and reach their own conclusion. That being said, I have not seen it with my own two eyes, but my vote at this time is for a sort of champagne (or dirty champagne) colored synthetic thread, which picks up a lot of reflection.
Whew! So did that make sense?

Same. It seems to be a hard venture, and personally I don't want to be a number. Just another fish in the sea that is Jack...ing?..eugh..lol. I want to be me, but I want to be jack too. This calls for some steady Multipl-personality meds

You tell me what color it "looks" like.

Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
It's either light maroon or a very very very very dark yellow, look at the top, just above his right hand. Looks dark no? I am assuming the 'gold' look is from the flashes and lights etc.

Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
Yep, I'm sticking with my previous hypothesis: a "dirty" champagne colored synthetic thread, which (like the silk of the waistcoat itself) is highly reflective, so looks different under different lighting.
Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
Even if everyone in this thread had the vest in front of them right now, I can guarantee there would be no agreement on what colour it was. Even at different points of the day as sunlight changes it looks different, and you have to take into account the aging sprays that have been applied to it.
I did have a dream last night that part of the film wardrobe saw my waistcoat and said they couldn't tell the difference between it and the real one though, and quite frankly that is probably going to be as useful as studying a photo with no reference point :-)

Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
Actually, I think there is one thing we would agree on and that is that it's not maroon. ;-)

CC! Any news on the Nu Life color? I am going to have to order this stuff online because no one carries it locally here in Cali! Buggah!!!!

Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
On the fabric I have, I'm using the other side not the maroon side. I'm awaiting Scotts fabric right now.
Dirty champagne sounds like a fine name for the thread color!

Yeah, I finally got a test swatch and the back looks amazing. Actually wish Richard had made my vest inside out! The patterns thicker (more SA imo) and it definitely reflects what's around it. I could even swear it looks gold under some light!!!

Yes! The reverse side is a cool brown hue versus the warm maroon on the opposite side which is also a thicker embroidery.
Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
Will be posting pics tonight. Doing some paint tests first.

Re: WHAT COLOR IS THE THREAD ON THE OST WAISTCOAT
agreed. If you can deal with a slightly wrong pattern I say go reverse side. See how there is "gold" in your picture. I'm looking at the material right now. THERE'S NO GOLD.
EDIT: Acme for me, looks identical to that.
