Regarding the OST waistcoat
Were the back side/inside of the pocket flaps and pocket itself the same embroidered material as the outside, or was it the same as the lining? If the same as the inside of the waistcoat, what would you say the color was? Was there a difference between the lining on the front side of the vest vs. the back side? Like the DMC/AWE lining was a greyish blue on the front half, and a lighter tan/natural fiber color on the back half. Does that even make any sense?

Re: Regarding the OST waistcoat
I understand and want to know as well. Richard started out doing the same material on both sides of the flaps, but by the time he made mine he had switched to "inside" material for the backs of the flaps. I'm guessing it was to save material, I hope it didn't screw me out of an SA vest.

Re: Regarding the OST waistcoat
I figure I'll post this here too:
To be honest, I'm not at all sure the backs of the pocket flaps are in fact made of the outside material on the screen-used waistcoat. They weren't on the one from movies 1-3, I am quite certain. Many waistcoats of that period had pokcet flaps lined in the same fabric as the pocket lining, or as the back of the vest. Frankly, I'd think self-lined pocket flaps with this material would be quite bulky. Anyway, just my two pence..

That's my take as well. Waistcoats just generally not made with the same material inside and out of the pocket flap. I can say that it was lined with a silk dupion though :-)
Re: Regarding the OST waistcoat
I agree. The majority of period waistcoats had the inside of the pocket flap lined with either the same fabric as the back or the inside lining.
I am anxiously awaiting my back material to arrive (a taupe/off white striped linen) to continue work on my OST waistcoat. I plan to use muslin as the inside liner and the pockets, and plan to do the back of the pocket flaps with the striped linen. Then, of course, I need to get the buttons...
By the way, I don't have any pics yet, but I got my waistcoat fabric from Scott Williams. His material is a nice silk that changes from blue to almost purple depending on the light (just like the pics I have seen of the real OST waistcoat) and the embroidery is a muted, beige-like gold that to my eyes looks spot on. And he makes it himself so no worry of him running out of it. Just sayin'...

Re: Regarding the OST waistcoat
Finished my OST waistcoat..... ( cf Topic Custom PRINTED OST waistcoat )
I've modified the buttonholes - 1st were too short !
// Still need a "little" weathering ("nicotine" on shoulders and ...) // nb : i haven't done a lace on the back, because i haven't seen it yet on the pics i have //
Advises welcome

Re: Regarding the OST waistcoat
Regarding the waistcoat - i was sorely disappointed by the lack of screentime where one could view the waistcoat in OST. Especially with all the thread color arguements.
It almost doesnt even matter what color it is. It's going to be like his breeches.

Re: Regarding the OST waistcoat
Yeah, I'm with you. Most of the time you could hardly see it. I eventually just kinda' gave up. And you're right, it's just like the breeches. People are eventually going to just do whatever looks closest to them, and that'll be good enough.
Re: Regarding the OST waistcoat
That is beautiful - well done. I love the back fabric - where did you get that?

Re: Regarding the OST waistcoat
Thanks to our very own Sparrow Party my fellow Europian Sparrow, he sended me the 2 part stencil to my email.
As for sizing I printed it out as a standard photo print 10 cm X 15 cm or 3.93inch X 5.90inch
I glued the stencils on a piece of thin cardboard '' it's best to use one from a cereal box or something like that''
now the fun part started:P I peeled out the black marked patterns whit a needle cost me about 3-4 hours but it's worth it.
Stencils:
test piece :
And ''try out'' on a nice satin/silk fabric:
After seeing the movie twice this weekend I personally think it's to gold in my eyes, I hope that I can find myself some nice dark red / dark copper paint or something like that.
Cheers!
