Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
It's sculpey clay, and hopefully it will take to the glue because I'm not using hot glue. They're also mock buckles that will be attached to something other than the leather (don't know what yet!)...hoping it works. If not, at least I have pretty pictures of it from before? XP

Hmm....iiiiiiinteresting. I can't remember why I used hot glue instead of any other glue, though I'm thinking I tried and it just sucked it up. Clay is a lot more dry than sculpy though, I think, which I didn't consider before because I tried sculpy before and didn't really like the properties of it. Very good idea to attach them to something other than the leather directly though. I was lazy... My poor, poor sculpts...

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
before and after in progress...
so far I've done some colour adjusting and respaced the colums of paisley... i think i have to redo the whole background to get the spacing correct on it, though, for the right diagonal spacing. i'm leaving the background dot colours as is... on the park vest there are double dots of red which doesn't make sense with the pattern, so i'm sticking to how it is!!!
thickened the yellow around the small background dots...
also respacing the paisleys, and they've also been resized in reference to the background.
i'm sticking with a blue tint for the background...black is just too...dull.
might lighten up the foreground a bit again ( edit: then again maybe not...when comparing the original image to the 'orange' paisleys on my avatar that look flourescent yellow... XD i think desaturated will be better. ) ... or just let it sit out in the sun. i'm liking this one so far! here's hoping it prints better than the first!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
I have seen Charlotte's swatch and it is looking very promising, the best I have seen to date. We compared it with Hi Res photos from El Capitan (including a picture with Disneyland's Angelica) it pasted the scale test. I know that she wants to make a few alterations as the paisleys are a little dark. An excellent start.

I agree!!
Question: mini paisleys...straight up and down, or tilted...?!?
Each pattern is different.

Been in the Pirate costuming realm with aelyn000 for 3 plus years now (remember cosplay.com Aubree) so I will support her and her pattern. Not saying the other pattern is not bad but I like Aubree's better. Consider it "brand loyalty!"
I think I have given up on the EW venture.

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
No disrespect intended, aelynns pattern is spot on to be sure. I'm in agreement that charlotte's pattern is pretty nice looking for a first attempt. I am also partial to the black background, but I won't go into that!
But... in the category of questions not answered...
"Which positioning of the mini paisleys is correct?"

Charlie is working on that.Sparrowed wrote:I agree!!

Both patterns are excellent. What it come down too is the printer, how well they can reproduce the sample. I have seen Charlies in person and also the real thing and it is very good.

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Thanks for the support, UM.
Positioning of the little paisleys? I guess it's every way...
I used 4 colours, they repeat the same down, across and diagonal. The spacing is precise for the widths, I just have to fix the spacing going up and down so that the back is ALMOST perfect... though, I still don't get how they ended up with doubled colours at some parts, it just throws the whole thing off! Especially since they're not where any tiles would meet. *confused* But I may attempt to match it, even still.
Unless you mean the actual angle of them... in which case, I just matched mine exactly with the Disney repro.
My green background paisley looks off black-green in person, so with how dark I have the blue, I'm sure it will look 98% black in person... with a smidge of blue. A barely faded black. I don't want it solid black mainly because the trim on her vest never matches the background, and the trim is black. And I like the trim and want it to stand out. It could be that the fabric is just so aged and distressed, but I'm no good at that so I'd rather print something usable instead of print it and fudge up the print with different washing/aging techniques. It ain't cheap!!!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
What I meant if both are from the actual vest images...which one is correct? I know you got yours aelynn from a pic of the fabric, but supposedly so did the other girl...???
The teeny tiny paisleys are positioned differently...
Tilted on charlotte's design, and pointed upwards in yours, aelynn.
I was curious is all...just my nit picking
Edit:
Look...pretty...hat.
Trims wrong, but shape looks good, eh?

Dunno how much the Disney repro varies from the actual stuff, if at all, but I traced right over or D-land fabric and it's definitely straight on that one. On the hi-res poster it looks straight, too... but it looks slanty in some screencaps... guess it all just depends on which way the fabric is draping at the moment... so everyone is right.

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
For as much time wasted on searching for the fabric in the past, I really really started hating the paisley design...but now seeing what a great job aelyn, acme and charlotte's done...I think the paisley is pretty afterall.
Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
yeesh.
think i'm finally done the second version...i ended up going through and adjusting the pattern/colour of the mini paisleys beside the big ones to match the parks colours. even though it's an inconsistent pattern, it seems to match the SA vest. if not... version 3 will be in the future.
i think i'm extremely happy with this one... as long as it prints well. Angelica's paisley are a bit brighter but considering my first round came out 2 shades away from neon, i'm hoping the results will be pretty close.
colour reference:
test images:
Yay? Nay? Suggestions?
I think it's definitely an improvement over my first version...the first almost looks like a lego caricature type vest now compared to this pattern.

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
I think it looks good. Have you decided what fabric yet? I'm assuming you're not going with Spoonflower? Or are you?
How about fabric on demand? The lady who was initially going to make my AT coat way back when...
swore by FOD. I've never had anything printed so I can't say.
Hahaha...I wish SMW would embroider this design!!

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
The only problem with FoD is that it's really complicated to adjust your image since every time you sent it in, a person edits it and sends you an image back... I did this with my first print and days later they sent the approved image back, which looked the same...but you can't measure it out or adjust the dpi on screen. All of that considered, Spoonflower is definitely a lot easier and faster to work with, and I'm taking a chance going with them again.
The thing is, too, after reviewing my original image compared to this one, it was really bright. But not so much that the orange should have printed yellow like it did... definitely ordering a swatch first though, but I purposely desaturated and cranked down the contrast in hopes of having/expecting slightly better results.
The Jack print I had done on sateen printed almost exact to my monitor image colours...but it does have a sheen to it which I think is just a bit too dressy for Ange...who knows. Maybe I'll order a swatch of all of them and see? I'm broke so I was just sticking with the cotton but now you have me reconsidering the other options... HMmMmmmmm.

Re: Angelica Teach ( Film style ) Costume Build
Charlotte went through Spoonflower and ordered the linen swatch. Her design has a dark green back ground too but the sample appears much darker. Spoonflower can do the job, it is just a matter of working with swatches until the color calibration is correct. Also remember when you print in color, depending I what sort of paper you use, colour does change? The same thing can happend with fabrics.
The good thing about sharing our experiences with each other, is that we have been able to learn and see what works and what doesn't.
Here is a close up of the vest pattern from the Disneyland Angelica.

As previously mentioned I am using the pattern below for my blue/purple angelica coat. I have just finished cutting the paper pattern and if anyone is looking for the pattern for the back of the vest, THIS IS IT! It is A line with pleates at the back.

My latest progress :] Wore it to a convention in LA last weekend! I'm hoping to make new hat trim before Comic-Con. Also going to line this vest if I can't get Spoonflower fabric in time!
