Re: Tying the Sash
Great vid, just used your method with my costumebase sash. It only wraped around twice but your metod certanly worked much better than the method I've been using. Thanks

Re: Tying the Sash
Thanks for this, mate. I've been looking for a more sturdy way to tie my sash, and this certainly looks like it'll work wonders. Looking forward to trying it out

Mojo Turbo wrote:I also think there is a huge difference between tying the acme and tying the IKEA - the IKEA is very stiff and lays like a table cloth, whereas the ACME ties loose and lays more bunchy and soft. So... talking about tying one, doesn't really look and feel the same as the other.
Yep, I've been beating my IKEA sash up, hoping it will soften. I wash it, dry it, crumple it, sit on it.... everything I can think of, and it still has that table cloth quality. Knotting it this way seems to cause it to bunch up a little better, though. I need to do a little more experimentation on it.

Re: Tying the Sash
In the very near future I'm going to try and do a little video tutorial of how I tie the sash, since it seems like some of the nuances are still confusing a few folks (although I thought Simon did a bang-up job describing it earlier in this thread). So what the heck, I'll try to do one myself, and hopefully it'll finally clear up the confusion
I still say it's the easiest method out there.

Re: Tying the Sash
Okay! I just filmed a little tutorial on my way (and I believe Simon's way) of tying the sash! Now as soon as I figure out how to upload it to Youtube I'll share it with all you fine scallywags!
Re: Tying the Sash
I put this on the sash-tying thread too, but I figured I'd put it here for good measure. Just wanted to let you guys know that I just finished a sash-tying tutorial of my own, and I'll be throwing it up here just as soon as I can figure out how to upload it to Youtube.
Re: Tying the Sash
Soooooo... apparently Youtube hates me. I can't get it to load on there for the life of me! How does everyone else do it? The file's only 388 megs, so it shouldn't be that big of a problem... I would thing... aaarrrrgh! This is why I don't do Youtube vids.
Re: Tying the Sash
Okay, sorry for all the posts back-to-back, but Youtube FINALLY uploaded my video! Woohoo! Here ya' go folks!
Re: Tying the Sash
I tried something different yesterday hopefully will upload it tonight
BTW: nice tutorial mate!

Re: Tying the Sash
I'm sorry for the bad english and the much lame-ness of the tutorial.
It's hard to talk to your own camera whitout a script if you know what I mean
This is my version of sash tying baby:

Great tutorials guys, glad we're getting more and more options out there.
McCool, I've been debating whether to cut my OST sash down to length so it only goes around the "confirmed" 2 times. If so I will definitely be tying it that way. For now though it's gotta go around that extra 1/2 time.

McC, that's EXACTLY how I did it based on Simon's description. It feels much less bulky without wrapping it around that extra time. I love it!

Re: Tying the Sash
Rock Star, GREAT VIDEO! I could not tell if you were following UM's exact tutorial, or .... either way. Very clear and easy to follow. There is more than one way to tie a sash, personally I want to stop using the safety pin method.
I love how you call the sashes "models."
We're going to be 80 talking back about the old days, "I had a model 2, these kids today with their new models..."

Re: Tying the Sash
Dude, what is Brethren Con? Your sash must be a lot shorter than mine, there is no way I could only wrap it once and be done wiv it. But great video!

Yeah, I definitely couldn't wrap it just the one time either (I have the Acme sash)! But I like the concept! I will have to give it a try! It's similar to how I already do it, but I don't do the knot, but doing that makes more sense!

Have you seen my tutorial viddy? I was having the same problem due to a longer sash, but I think the way I do it now is very secure and perfect for the Acme sash.

Yep! I have tried your way a couple times now and I do really like it too! My problem is mostly due to me not being thin... I have noticed that this new way, to get the sash to hang right, the behind sash piece seems a bit shorter... So I figured I would play around with this other new way too and see if I can come up with a hybrid version that would work for me...
