Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
After trying on those costumbase breeches, I decided that even with suspenders/braces holding them up, the rise is just too low. So, to extend them, I found a second-hand pair of blue jeans. The tricky part was to find a pair that were self-waisted (without a separate piece for the waistband). I found these for a few bucks:
After unpicking the belt loops and the horizontal seam:
I then bleached the scraps and sewed them to my existing breeches:
A little more distressing:
I added suspender buttons, but after having tried these on, I think I'll just add some more eyelets to the split back and add a longer string. This should keep everything in place just fine (hopefully).
Kind regards,
Magnoli

Interesting. Those boots look exactly like what they were SUPPOSED to send me the first time around and didn't (ever) - not to mention that they got to you in half the time. Guess you can just never tell with those guys. At any rate, I'm glad you didn't experience the same nightmare I did.
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
Those boots look great! Did they hook you up with the proper seam up the back? Also, which toe is that?

Thanks! Both boots (so both toes) are in the photo... so not sure what you mean.
As for the back, the seam is covered by a 1" wide strip of leather...

They do look like that. Did you measure the shafts to make sure they actually sent you custom boots? Because I was told very explicitly by Priscilla, the wife of the owner, that they were "unable" to put the finished leather strip on the back seam of the custom boots, which are made in San Antonio, TX - that it was only included on the stock ones, which are made in a factory in Mexico. These do look a lot like the Mexico boots...
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
Ok, these are definitely 21" tall, just measured them to be sure, they have the strip on top of the rear seam AND they were shipped from Mexico. So, they must be doing their custom Jack boots down there now too! I've sent Joey a message asking what's up since the site does state that the custom boots are made in Texas. I knew they were coming from Mexico though, I didn't even remember that the site said these were made in Texas until you guys pointed that out. The only other thing I noticed was I was expecting these to have boot straps... didn't Jack's have them?
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
That's interesting... Well, either way, it looks like you got a superior boot in the end. Which is ironic, given that you'd think the custom "Made in USA" ones would be of a higher quality than the "Made in Mexico" factory boots, but there you go. The ones out of the factory in Mexico are definitely the better boot, IMO, having owned both.
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
I ordered a pair of custom boots this summer (mine were Will Turner style in brown) and what I received shipped from Mexico. They are to my specs and have leather soles (not Neoprene like the stock boots) so they must definitely be filling some custom orders out of Mexico. I'm very happy with the quality of these boots and will no doubt order a pair of Jack Sparrow custom boots eventually.
That said, I did have one minor snafu with my order: when the boots first arrived they were black! I sent them back and eventually got a pair of brown boots like I ordered. This worked in my favor because I had originally ordered a size 11 but they were a bit big so I had them change the brown pair to a 10 1/2. They also added an anti-slip rubber bottom to the leather soles that I didn't want, but rather than sending the boots back a second time I just took them to a local shoe shop and had the rubber piece removed. All in all I'm quite happy with the way these came out, but it does seem to be hit or miss when it comes to CA Boots.
(Photo taken the day the boots arrived. I've since done some distressing and worn them several times.)

Need.....caboots.....they look great, on the area of wristwraps did anyone see the new one's offered by Brian Braxton aka Sparrowgoods?
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
Less than one month to go... just got these two belts from Alex Borton:
The Acme sun buckle had way too much patina, in my opinion, but a few minutes with some turpentine and a wire brush and I brought out more of the bronze. Alex did a fantastic job with these, especially the back of the Anamaria belt:
He also through in a couple of rabbit pelts (which have since been correctly moved to the Sun Belt, so don't worry)... so I just need some charms and a chicken foot and that will be done!

Ok, here is my Yordreem wig with my own bandana:
Now, looking at this photo, here are the things I think need changing:
-narrow the bandana (from the top so more hair is showing on top)
-move the top knot more to the right (viewer's left)
-bring the long kuchi strand slightly more to the front (the dreads tend to cover it with this placement, though I pushed them aside for the photo)
-redo the right braid (viewer's left) as it is way too thick as it is
If you see any other tips you can give, please do so and I'll work them in. I also notice that the bandana needs to be worn slightly lower to cover more of my eyebrows.
Now... to see how much beard I can grow in the next four weeks...

Did the trinkets come with the wig or did you put those together and add them?

Yordreem included everything with the wig except the bandana (I requested it without since I already had one). The kuchi strand and piece-of-eight came separate to be attached myself.
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
Very cool. I was debating on ordering the wig with/without all the trinkets, but after seeing yours I think I'll get it with. Looks great!

Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
Looking good! I'd actually say most of the things you mentioned that need to be done to the wig are fairly unnecessary. Perhaps moving the top pony tail, and also thinning the braid. But other than that, the rest looks pretty much just right. When you tug the bandanna down to cover your eyebrows the top of the wig will show more, so that solves that. Really it looks to be about the perfect width at present. And as for the kuchi strand, it does get covered by dreads on occasion in the film, but if you wanted to move it forward to be a bit more visible, that'd probably be fine.
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
The only thing I noticed was that the African Trade bead strand looks like it could be a little bit lower, but everything else looks great. I can't wait to get one of these wigs myself now.

Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
I did some more work on my wig. I narrowed the braid on the right side, but it still looked too far back, so I made a new braid from scratch put if further forward and added a multicolored tuft at the end. I moved the top know over more to the right and added some more coins to the back.

Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
ok, I wanna know... when you're done.... are you going to put it all on?
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
Hey... now THERE'S an idea! I have a funny feeling that I won't have everything ready until the last minute but, in the very least, I'll be sure to take plenty of photos (and maybe even a little video) on the day.
The only things I've yet to sort out are the two belt dangles (bone and charm) and the beard braids. In a pinch, I can cut some hair off one of my spare wigs and I already found some "close enough" beads at my local craft shop. I'd rather have real hair for the braids, but I don't think I'll be able to score some in time.
If any one has a spare bone or charm, let me know!
