I'm not saying her's isn't better, I'm just saying I was surprised how accurate the MR version is considering it's not a replica and predates the POTC films by a decade. For those who are less scrupulous about details, the MR version is certainly "close enough" in my book.
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
Someone just e-mailed me, asking for measurements of my baldric. Here are the sizes I used (taken from my ACME baldric), though the lengths may vary depending on your size:
Belt width: 2 1/8"
Long belt: 45" (this one I shortened a bit to get a better proportion on myself, so I imagine this will need to be changed quite a bit depending on your height, etc).
Short belt: 22 1/4" (to the buckle fold); 24 1/2" (full length, unfolded)
Belt keeper width: 3/4"
Frog:
-short edge (top edge when worn): 11 7/8" (folded)
-short edge (top edge when worn): 16 1/4" (unfolded)
-long edge (bottom edge when worn): 13" (folded)
-long edge (bottom edge when worn): 17 3/4" (unfolded)
-frog strap width: 2 1/2"
This would be good info to add to the wiki tutorial.
Kind regards,
Magnoli

What fabric did you use for your waistcoat? I am making one, but I cant decide on a what color to use, and all of the ones I seem to find are very thin and delicate.

The main fabric of my waistcoat is a 9oz linen/silk blend: http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/privateer-waistcoat-vests-p-469.html
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.

Your wig has wool dreads, correct?

Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
A little geometry will help you calculate the approximate amount of materials you need for one baldric based on the measurements I gave in my previous post. I don't know off the top of my head because I was given the embossed vinyl in a trade and then just cut the leather as I went to match.
My wig is from Yordreem, with only very slight modifications... so not sure what they use to make them. But, suffice it to say, the wig is EXTREMELY realistic, including a visible scalp!

For those who missed my thread in the Cursed Crew section, here is the "hero" version of my outfit:
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
Just had another day out as Jack... more photos to come. But this one is one of my favorites: "They're behind me... aren't they?"
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
This latest photo (above) shows a couple of tweaks to the outfit, but the most noticeable change is the pants. I took the same pants (the ones that started blue, bleached down to a mottled grey, spray painted some "dirty" patches onto, then rubbed onto my scabbard when polishing it for further aging) and dropped them into a tub of dark brown fabric dye (according to the instructions, there was a bit too much fabric for the dye which was perfect as I didn't want them dark brown). The end color is, in my opinion, dead on to the original and I'm VERY happy with this update! (Though only me and you fellow pirates would even appreciate the difference).

Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
looks awesome - since you are so BIG on costumes.... is Jack.... your favorite?
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
Without a doubt, Jack is the most fun to wear! Not only is it relatively comfortable, but the reactions people give you are great. And there is so much you can put into the character. Sure, stormtroopers look freaking cool, but all you can do is stand there. And nothing is worse than our poor Boba Fett, who kept getting asked "who are you again?".
Everyone loves Jack! Heck, I wonder how much time I actually spent showing people all the cool little things in the costume. Kids would run up and say "Do you have the compass"... Old ladies would stare at all the rings... Everyone wants to touch the dreads... and the real chicken foot freaks everyone out. It's a load of fun!!

Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
I finally got a decent sized snake vertebrae:
As you can see in the photo, I've got plenty spare, so if you need one, shoot me a message.
Kind regards,
Magnoli

now all you need is a skull, you could build your own snake
Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
We were asked by the YMCA to bring a few costumed characters to their "family day"...
Never had so many photos taken with babies. Even had to run an obstacle course:
One kid got smart to me and said, "You're not the real Jack Sparrow!" To which I replied, "Yes, I am." "You're not Johnny Depp!" So, I reached into my pocket and flashed my ID:
I left him with his jaw hanging open as I ran off in the other direction.
This was the first time I was able to trial my gold teeth. I bought some dollar-store gold press-on-nails, trimmed them with a dremel, then held them in place with some denture cream. They worked fairly well; I had to reattach one after a couple of hours, and I didn't eat anything that required biting. Not sure if it's worth the effort, but several people commented on the gold teeth, so they're definitely noticeable.
Kind regards,
Magnoli

Any pirate worth his salt would have punctured the volleyball with his sword and made off with it. I'm thoroughly disappointed!

Re: Jack Sparrow COMPLETE! New PHOTOS page 8.
Well, if it's any consolation, I did run an obstacle course against this kid... during which I pulled his shirt, tripped him and at one point when we were supposed to throw a football into a bucket, I grabbed his first, threw it in the other direction, then threw mine.
And, in my defense, Darth Vader was watching the volleyball just off camera, so I was limited as to what pirate skills I could employ.

Ah, yes. Excuses, justifications, and misdirection. You have rightfully regained your piratical status. Cheers, mate!
