Callmemilo's Sparrow upgrades
Took me long enough to finish my Zizzle flintlock mod but I've finally got it finished! Would love to get some feedback

Oh and changed the name of the thread so I don't have to bug everyone every time I make a new small item, lol.

Re: Callmemilo's Sparrow upgrades
Lookin' good mate! The gun is nigh on perfect! And the zombie finger dangle thingy looks brilliant too! As previously mentioned, the gold tone on that is perfect! That seems to be really hard to do.
My only wee critique is that you might consider blackening the sword parts a little more (specifically the "brass" parts). His is pretty dark. I can't even tell if it's actually brass or steel (did we ever all reach a consensus on that? I can't recall).

I'd say brass. Brass does indeed go black/dark dark brown with age especially the pommel etc its possible the guard can be steel but you'd see more oxidization; i.e. your looking at heavy rust.

Re: Callmemilo's Sparrow upgrades
My finished homemade OST wig with my Nik Dallos tricorn.
I made myself Jack's second gun by fusing together and modding two existing toy flintlocks, but will post pics of that some other time
Next step... new OST accurate waistcoat (I'm thinking SM Pillowfort), possibly new boots to replace my Pleasure Mavericks, and a heavy mod of my Costumebase frock coat.

Not necessarily. Remember that the props department acquired an actual antique hanger for Depp to use as Jack, along with the two antique perry pistols. They would have restored the sword to the point of removing any heavy rust, however the pitting and darkening of the steel would still have occured. Brass hilts, while not uncommon, were still not as common as steel, and in many cases the steel would have been blackened to begin with by the smith in order to help keep rust away. Darkened brass would still show highlights in heavy wear areas from constant rubbing and friction, whereas blackened steel will not. None of the photos of Jack's actual sword prop show any signs of brass - it is more uniform in color which again would be the result of blackened steel. This is just my input as an antique sword collector with years of studying historical pieces, but I could be wrong since I haven't actually handled the real prop. But my vote is blackened steel.
Re: Callmemilo's Sparrow upgrades
The hilt on Jack's sword actually is quite rusty, not black at all
I will try and dig up the screen caps I have and I have a picture of a stunt sword I need to find off my old computer that shows it rusty as well.

Well then, there you have it - if it has rust, it has to be steel...
Re: Callmemilo's Sparrow upgrades
Here's a look at how my Jack stands at the moment. I wanna darken and replace some of the dreads in the wig. I also want a new waistcoat and breeches. And I'm gonna try at some point to cover my boots in the correct looking tan faux suede.
Excuse the messy ciump of hair sticking out the top right of the wig.

You want to darken some of the dreads I made? I can send you some acid dye if you want some? I'll see how much I have here.
