OST Dreads
Does anyone have an visual guide to the dreads and the accessories on each one? Sort of like how UM had his WIP picture guide, but..more in depth? Less "how to make dreads", more "whats on them, and where do they go"?
Re: OST Dreads

Re: OST Dreads
I dont think there's a specific 'way'. Just poke in and out and tangle that mess up! Alternatively, I'm sure there are hairstyling websites for it.. i just don't know about it.

There are plenty on youtube. Most are the backcombing technique but if you add "crochet" to you search, you should be able to find some.

Re: OST Dreads
I believe someone posted one a while back on the "other" forum. A youtube video, that is.
Re: OST Dreads
Lucky for me, my friend gave me a bag of his old dreads. Turns out Locks of Love doesn't accept dreads for wigs so I capitalized! Least my OST dreads will be human hair, and I can probably swap out some of my synth dreads with any left overs. But yes, specifically a DREAD guide would be wonderful, not necessarily trinket placement.

Re: OST Dreads
This thread's been really helpful, I'm making an OST wig right now. I know the purpose of this particular thread isn't a tutorial for dread making, but I was hoping somebody could give me advice on how to stop my kanekalon dreads from unraveling. It seems no matter how much backcombing I do, they untwist without almost any handling, much less wearing them in my wig. I've made about 9 of them now which I dunked in boiling water with immediately great results, to find out a few days later that they aren't holding up. I just tried a clothing steamer and that actually straightened the dreads, the opposite of what I wanted. It's getting returned in the morning, if they'll take it. Is there a glue or anything that will permanently lock them together?

Cheers!
Watch out for this link mates. It loads adfly which is a spyware / adware link. This is why I don't recommend megaupload as a valid file hosting site.

Re: OST Dreads
Yes I went completely Afro Kinky in varying colors. Requires less back combing.

Aye! That is the name!
Rockstarpirate! Convert your file to a PDF and upload it to megaupload. I think because it is a word document it is causing some issues with by adding the ads to the front of the URL. If you convert to PDF people would be able to right mouse click on the link and SAVE AS and the PDF will download.

Re: OST Dreads
I just finished making a sort of map of the wig in Excel spreadsheet form. It's got all of the dreads and braids listed according to which side of the head they're on starting from front to back and details including their colors, the colors they fade to (if applicable), the things that are hanging in/on them, and their length. I counted 31 dreads and 8 braids total, although I won't claim that I got everything right. I will say that I put hours and hours of work into this and I'm confident that it's mostly correct. If anybody would like me to share my spreadsheet and can recommend a place for me to upload it, I will. Otherwise I can email it individually if you PM me with your address.

Yes it is... and calm yourself, you saucy wench...
Re: OST Dreads
I started mixing and tying off all my dreads today and plan on finishing all of them by the end of the day tomorrow at the latest. As I go through, I'm changing the hair colors in my guide to actual kanekalon reference numbers, so if you're following my guide and want a revised edition, it'll be available sometime around Wednesday. Since I'm trying to finish the wig by Friday AND take all my finals/write papers this week, I might not log on much until next week, but I'll try to respond to PMs as I receive them when I have the time.

Felting Needle for making dreads
I used a felting needle I bought from Hobby Lobby to create my dreads. The needle has a handle and three small needles with mini barbs all over them that grab the hairs. You take your afro kinky hair, twist it and begin jamming the needle back and forth. It makes short work of any dread of any thickness. I can do several dreads in 5 minutes or less. And no crochete needles that might get jammed and caught in your hand.

Do you happen to have a couple ref photos of the tool and your method - ie a 1. 2. 3. sequence? I am finally getting ready to start making my dreads and have a couple methods that I am going to try. I would love to try this one as well.
Thank you mate!
