Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
I actually got the OST Yatzee game with the FOY chalice at Barnes & Nobel over the weekend. It's not bad for what it is, and with a bit of modding and a repaint it should do nicely. I want to get it ready to go for an after party to an event I'm doing for the premier so I can walk around drinking out of it. There is a hole that runs through the inside of the cup for a string to keep it tied in place in the box that needs to be filled. I think I may actually try my hand at silver leafing the metal parts to get a more realistic look.
Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
The yahtzee chalice looks better than the real thing.
See real thing?
Yahtzee better.

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
The yatzee chalice is actually pretty good imo. Ya need 2 though. Only glaring thing wrong is that the non-metal part of the bowl is actually translucent.

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
Yeah, I was looking at it last night, then looked at the tortiseshell pickguard on my strat and was wondering the possiblities of picking up another one and cutting the sections out of the cup, replacing it with ones from the pickguard (heated and reshaped) and epoxied in. I think I'm also going to dremel out the areas where the white "beads" are so there are small channels and use clear epoxy to put some tiny white glass beads in. This of course will be after filling the center hole and giving the chalice itself a coating of silver/chrome spary paint that I used on the silver pieces of my Zizzle pistol.
This will NOT be done before the premier, as this is clearly going to be a long term project...

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
First of all the prop is horrific. Not good, not good at all. It looks like a modified plastic accessory.
The bowl of the chalice is suppose to be made of stone. The original that I believe this is copied from or "inspired" from, is made if sardonyx a red onyx.
I have spent months looking for a onyx bowl to modify for the chalice cup, but all are too shallow, or too big.
The beads on the chalice are seed pearls.
There are two chalices needed for the ritual. One has "AQUA" inscribed on it,
the other "de VIDA". One is

Onyx is a banded variety of chalcedony. The colors of its bands range from white to almost every color (save some shades, such as purple or blue). Commonly, specimens of onyx contain bands of colors of white, tan, and brown.

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
I think those small dots are weld beads. The chalices have the inlaid onyx sheets so they need to be held in by the metal frame. The weld beads are added to provide a slot for them to sit in and not fall out.
I could be wrong though!!!
See how they exist at all areas where two metal plates come together? Even on the "inspired" cup as well albeit much smaller.

I'm no welder...just a wench
To me they looked like freshwater seed pearls.
You're probably right CJS, it does make sense.

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
Could be an interesting project, mates!
Anyway, I think the prop shown above is only some kind of a stunt prop. You can see that some of the other props also look less detailed and kind of "rubberish", therefore I suppose some weapons and stuff were rubber (=stunt) props. The chalice could also be made of rubber, maybe resin.
Just my 2 cts.

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
Yeah I agree, it's too crappy looking to be the "actual" prop... Must be a copy of the prop. *shrugs*
Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
as a welder/steel construction worker I can say that those are little welds on the chalice.

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
Here are a couple pics of the cup part of the chalice Im making (It looks better in person )
I don't know what it actually looks like on the inside, because I'm going only by the chalice images that are available, it's my own interpretation.

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
Wow, that's pretty awesome... What is it made of and how did you go about it?
Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
The silver cup below my sanded cup isn't what I'm using... I just put the chalice cup on it to get a sense of proportion. After I finish sanding (ugh!) it, I'll polish it and cut it down then begin the stem and the base. I'm going to go with silver leaf if it isn't too expensive. Also for all those "welds" ...I've got the perfect solution for those!
Question...WHAT color are the cabs underneath the cup?

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
You can see the silver supports from the interior of the cup. I couldn't tell if it was a shadow of the silver visible thru the transparency of the bowl or if it's individual pieces held into place by the silver, and those weld bumps???
CaptJaq... You have the Yahtzee chalice, aye? Wot say you?

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
One of my chalice WIP so far...
Metal candle holder I cut apart and put back together. It still needs to be soldered.
With cup #1
Cup #2
I think I'm going to take more off the stem, it's still too tall. The cups are a bit taller than I want too.

Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
Yay!! Thanks Maui512! Now I know what the inside looks like!
Mine so far...
Going to make that ball piece larger, cut down a little bit more off the stem and start the bracket pieces.
Re: PROP: OST Chalice...
