Unfortunately, no. I check my messages multiple times daily and have yet to hear anything back...I'll probably shoot him another e-mail after Halloween when there isn't such a rush to get orders out in time. Maybe if we all ask together politely, we'll get a faster response? XD

These look pretty great! If only these didn't have the seam up the side, and had the finished seam look at the back. Could they be custom altered when made by this company to our specs?

I believe the boots posted here are actually an older model of CABoots. At any rate, they have the general look, but the specifics need a lot of work.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure those boots are just overstock of an old CABoots design.

I have emailed Robert of Motor Cowboy about them potentially making Jack Sparrow boots. This is what he said:

"Thanks for your inquiry. I would be glad to take on the project. What I
need is a good set of photos of what you want from as many angles as
possible. I look forward to hearing from you."

I have some photos that I can send to Robert but if any of you guys have any really good pics of Jack's boots we could send him please let me know. And if there is anything you would like me to ask or any specs you know of feel free to let me know.

Heck, just send them a lot of the specs from CABoots. I'm sure McCool has a lot of the specifics for the boots after hearing his horror story with them.

CABoots: Is there an alternative? - Page 2 Empty Re: CABoots: Is there an alternative?

Post  Captain McCool Sun Nov 06, 2011 4:09 pm

Hah! Leave it to Adenry to post a million awesome screengrabs! Brilliant!

And, just for good measure, here are my own specs again, slightly refined this time for more detail:

3-piece boots (as in, one piece for the toe, one for the heel and shaft, and one for the bell at the top. This does not include lining.)

Shaft height: 18 to 21 inches, depending on the person. However, a 19-20 inch shaft for an average boot is probably right around the mark.

Toe: 2", square. VERY square. No "sort of square and sort of round" nonsense.

Sole: brown natural leather, with a single line of stitching around the edge. This may optionally have a thin neoprene slip-protector or outer-sole, but the sole must NOT have a noticeable tread of any kind.

Heel: stacked brown leather, matching the sole. Preferably 1 5/8 inch (I prefer this very slightly taller heel, as I feel it looks more like his, but others may disagree). Gently sloped inward at the rear. Heel may optionally have a rubber bottom to help with wear and shock when walking.

Finished rear seam - Meaning a 1/2"-or-so strip of leather stitched up the center back of the boot, neatly covering rear seam from the top of the heel to the where the bell attaches to the shaft.

Bell measuring 10 or 11 inches at front and gently sloping to 8 or 9 inches in rear. Slightly rounded point at front. Bell to me made of 2 layers of leather stitched together at bottom edge. Bell MUST flare outward from where it attaches to the shaft. My boots flare between 4 and 5 inches. Bell must NOT be cut straight. Bell to be completely stitched up the rear, with seam turned in towards the boot when bell is folded down (or alternately, with outer seam turned in towards the lining, and lining seam turned in towards the outer portion, so that no raw seam is visible). This means NO split in the rear, NO lacing up the back, and NO raw seam sticking out in the back.

Suede or "rough out" genuine leather material used for outside of boots (preferably of a nice, sturdy weight of leather. NOT garment weight or anything like it), and preferably smooth, softer leather used inside for lining.

Natural tan color (as in NOT brown, NOT orange, and NOT yellow, but a nice, semi-dark natural tan color. Perhaps somewhat buttery, with slightly brown or yellow undertones).

And I think that's everything I've got. Those specs are about as specific as I could possibly get. I really hope they help, and that the company will stick to them when/if they actually produce these boots.

So I don't know if you all have heard back yet or not, but I got a reply back from Robert at Motorcowboy replicas, I e-mailed him about 3 weeks before Halloween and finally get a response:

I can definitely do these. But there is a lot of material and work involved. They would cost $525, plus $75 in shipping. Please let me know if you want to proceed.

I figured that would be an issue....same problem myself, I was expecting something between $250-400 but that asking price is pretty high and with that major shipping charge too....

Yeah, sadly it just too high for me. I do think there are those out there who would buy them at that price - especially if they truly are of superior quality (which has yet to be seen), but I just can't justify it. Heck, I could hardly justify the $460 or so I spent on my CABoots pair. If they said they'd do them for an even $500 I'd consider it, but it would still be on the upper register of my price range.

Also, there's just no reason shipping a pair of boots like that domestically should cost $75.

That's a lot of money for a pair of boots.

Just found that pic:
https://2img.net/h/i119.photobucket.com/albums/o133/Elavyan/Dressing%20the%20Stars/Pirates%20of%20the%20Caribbean/DSC_9068.jpg

Thought it might be helpful.
I've never seen the back of the boots so up close. I always wondered how is the back made exactly. It seems to me like there's just a band of leather over the back seam. I think I'll add one on my boots now Smile
