Alternate Angelica

Going to a Pirate party on Thursday...

Sadly, I didn't have time/resources ( literally, the fabric store had NOTHING that I needed ) to make the new costume I had planned so I'm relying on Angelica...

Problem is, I get super grumpy when I'm uncomfortably hot and it's supposed to be 90 + humidity that day with 200 people crowded on the deck of a tall ship. I was thinking of making my first draft blouse into short sleeved one and maybe wearing a short skirt... too much skin? Any other suggestions on ways I can lighten up the costume ( and make it girlier...it's actually a party, as in...club hosted... not a ren festival or anything ) while still keeping most elements and looking piratey?

Thanks for all the suggestions! I like the bloomers idea, very cute! I like the booties too! I actually really like the ones you posted! You don't see a height like that very often. Short, but still piratey!!

I'm not too worried about being limited for movement in a short skirt... with 230 people on deck one ship, I don't think I'll be doing much other than standing. I thought of leather for the skirt too, but if it's really short, and the belt is in between it and the corset, I'm worried it might look like a onesie which would be REALLY weird!

Procastination... *glares* ... you win again. Grr... MAYBE I can whip up a pair before then... I'm terrible at making pants so I don't know how well it would go over.

It doesn't look that hard to make since you can sew but then again, I don't know because I dont sew other than a hem here or there...

Hmmmm... The only other alternatives would be a skirt, or plain short shorts.

You know what else would be cute...just my opinion... A pair of open toed short booties!
(sorry I hijacked the thread with my shoe shopping obsession!)

These may work, except for the zipper trim, but if you had extra hat trim you could add it to the boot to cover the zippered edge and it would match.

I agree with mojo! It's lovely to have females that are into costuming and are knowledgeable. I love your little Alternative Angelica drawing. I understand what you mean on being uncomfortable and sweaty. That sucks. I went to the first Pirate Festival down here in San Diego California and almost passed out 3 times. I had the Angelica corset on and top and bottoms on with added Capt. Sparrow goods. It was soooooo hot!!! I was parched and when I got back to the car after being at the festival, I had to take my Caboots off! Well, most of the outfit so to say....Sweeeww! Much more better I said afterwards. HAHAHA!

Going with short shorts as per Sparrows suggestion! They are a light linen and have buttons on the sides and are a loose fit kind of like her breeches so I thought it was a little more in spirit and would work well! ( And less to sew! )

Now I'm undecided on the boots... I raided my sisters closet and found thigh high synthetic boots that are kinda loose on me ( she's a bit bigger than I am ) and raised my body temperature 1000 degrees in 10 minutes... but look pretty sweet...

Some synthetic suede booties that slouch in the front and have a button down the side

and some elastic cut out booties with a patent strap over the top...

Suggestions?

It's like a make-aelyns-costume thread. XD I'm so bad at making such small decisions..............

4 hours to go! So excited! The blouse turned out great! It's so cute with short sleeves.



Ps. ignore the slouch in my cincher... I'm physically unable to do it up myself unless I do it backwards and spin it around but then the shirt gets all twisty and I didn't feel like fighting with it. Lazy day!!!

My own captain said short booties too. Looks like I'll definitely be adjusted for my party attire. And I am dying...I LOVE the bikini ideas!!!!! I just don't know how well any of the fabrics would do other than for lounging on the beach. They're all cotton based with no stretch and I bet the chlorine would suck the dye right out of the print...but you know, I have enough leftover to try it out!!! Will definitely need a sarong for that one. I'm a bikini girl but not the kind to post it all over the internets. Lol the jack ost would be so cute....with gold tie strings!!! Ooh!!
