Scarlett Costume Build
No, I am not doing a Scarlett build, but am tossing out a question: is it impossible to find that red stripe fabric? Mostly when I see a fan made Scarlett, the costumer has just chosen some red and white stripe fabric. It looks more like a candy cane than the 18th century pattern seen here:

Is this why more girls go with Giselle? I think Scarlett would be an awesome challenge? And another thing - most of these girls I see, they don't dirty the dress up. These 2 girls are JACKED (no pun intended). Their dresses look like they wear them every day....

Re: Scarlett Costume Build
This is true. Most Scarletts and Giselles out there are generally much too clean (including my beloved Sarah, alas), but my theory is that this is primarily because the ladies in question can't really bring themselves to ruin such an amazing gown. And I can't say I blame them. Those gowns are a hundred times harder to make than most of the Jack Sparrow stuff we do. Still, dirtier does indeed look better.
As for Scarlett, personally I've never been much of a fan of her costume. Giselle's is at least a sort of period gown. Scarlett's is just... odd... I don't really like how it fits, and I don't really think it's actually based on anything actually from that era. Sarah and I have been talking a bit about how she'd like to do her own take on Scarlett, which would incorporate elements from CotBP Scarlett, sequel-Scarlett, and even maybe the redhead from the ride, as well as some more historical elements.

10 times for each bone you have to sew into the corset, and 10 times again for each row of eyelets to be punched/embroidered. and then an extra 10 times for any hook and eyes. and 10 more times for each layer of petticoat.

It's a lovely dress to be sure! After AWE, I sent inquiries out to have it made... But at that time it just would have cost me more than I was able to afford. It's still one of my favorites.

BTW, mojo, once things slow down with how busy i've been lately, i do plan on illustrating the pattern and having it printed! whether i do this before or after the re-make of the angelica design, i have yet to decide... though i may not re-make the angelica design as i have another route that may work out even better...

Re: Scarlett Costume Build
Personally, I'm a big fan of this one (although it doesn't show the whole dress):

And may I also just say... Lauren Maher... dayum...

Re: Scarlett Costume Build
I've got no qualms about dirtying up my gowns. My Lizzie dress is in dire needing on a cleaning, too many raves, urm, I mean parties. Only it's the dress from P1 where she falls into the ocean, it's as dirty as her wedding dress in P2 (which I've been really wanting to do) However I do like Giselle's dress more than Scarlett's.
But does anyone know how much different Scarlett's dress in the movie is from the Scarlett on the ride? I've never snapped a pic of the ride Scarlett before.

Re: Scarlett Costume Build
Scarlett is supposed to be inspired from ride Scarlett right? No way ride Scarlett's dress would be in the films now that I see (couldn't remember), too simple. But I do remember hearing in the commentary on P1 when Scarlett came on screen there was a "brides for sale" banner in the back, but I never could see it.

Re: Scarlett Costume Build
Just looking through screens now... I don't see the banner either... but here's what you see of her dress in the first.
She uh.... definitely cleaned up by the time AWE sailed around.

They did say something of that nature in the commentary right? or am I crazy? I haven't watched p1 for a while.aelyn000 wrote:Just looking through screens now... I don't see the banner either... but here's what you see of her dress in the first.

Re: Scarlett Costume Build
Yeah, I actually like her CotBP dress better than her movies 2 and 3 dress, but unfortunately you don't ever get a very good look at it.
