Re: What's your biggest dedication to "being Jack"
Haha, these are all really interesting answers, truly.
As to the moustache and beard, that's also one of my biggest dedications. Although admittedly I don't like the way I look clean-shaven. Never have, probably never will. Still, I'm not sure I'd trim it quite the same way if it wasn't for Jack. As it is, I still play around with it when I know I can (if I know I don't have a gig for a while or something). Blueyedjack, I have to admit, I'm surprised that you don't like how the facial hair ages you. I first grew the beard and stache when I was in my last couple years of high school, and I LOVED the fact that everyone thought I was in my 20's.
Anyway, for a long time a major dedication of mine was growing my hair out. Like nearly everyone else doing Jack nowadays I have always worn a wig, but for a long time that wig was totally braided into the ponytail at the rear, with only dreads hanging down in front. This looked stupid on its own, so my own hair had to fill in underneath. I still love the way this looks, but eventually I just decided it was time for a change, so I cut it all off around October of last year. Now I've got a wig with loose hair AND dreads (or more accurately, I did one, was unsatisfied with it, and am now working on a second human-hair-blend one), but I still liked the way it looked with my real hair much better.
And regarding the tattoo... hmmmmmm... it's so hard... a large part of me really wants to get it, but I'm torn. I don't have any tattoos right now - partially due to the cost, partially due to my utter fear of pain, and partially due to the fact that I'm scared shiteless that I'll get one and then regret it. Still, Jack has really been a major part of my life, so it's really a temptation. I only wish it wasn't in such a glaringly obvious place on the body. I mean, any time I wore short sleeves it would be clearly visible. My parents would hate me for it, and I'm afraid it might negatively influence my ability to get a job. Despite all this though, it certainly is tempting. If I were to get it, I think I might choose to have the sparrow flying inwards instead of outwards. Not necessarily to copy what JD did with his own tattoo (I certainly wouldn't put "Jack" below it), but because I agree with what he said about it: the bird should always fly back to you. It's a good-luck thing. The bird should always fly back, so the sailor will always find his way home.
Oh, and I too have been losing weight to play Jack, heh. I'm about the same height as JD, but he's only about 160 pounds from what I've heard, and I was recently around 185. I used to be a lot skinnier, but working desk jobs for 2 years definitely changed that. Now I'm back down to 175, which is nice, but I'd still like to get down at least 5 to 10 more pounds. And after trying to lose this weight, lemme tellya, I respect your achievement A LOT, HBJack! It's freakin' hard!

McCool, it's like yer in my head, and it's creeping me out!
Fortunately, I'm a little past the age where I have to worry about parents' reactions, but I am concerned about what it'd mean as far as career prospects. I'm sure anybody reading this wouldn't mind seeing a family therapist with an obvious Jack tattoo, but I'm not so certain about how the majority of my potential clientele would respond. If only it were in a less conspicuous place!

I have lost weight also just because that I need to eat healthier foods. I went from 195 to 171 and the costume does fit and look better. I don't think that I would do a real tattoo but would like to find a temporary one that looks good. I do have my ears pierced with one in each ear and maybe would do a second hole.

Re: What's your biggest dedication to "being Jack"
Being as how I don't have a full costume of Jack yet on account that I'm still building it, I'd have to say at this point the biggest dedication is all the stinking MONEY I'm putting into it. I try to live on a budget, mainly because I didn't live on one several years ago and I am suffering the consequences of it now. Trying to get out of debt is the pits! But the reward is well worth the effort.
My 2 doubloons on the tattoo: The whole tattoo decision is easy for me, I simply won't get one...ever. I'm a fairly religious person and my faith preaches the whole "your body is a temple and don't defile it" belief. So if I want to follow my faith then I won't ever get a tattoo, any tattoo.
But regardless of my faith, even the permanent nature of tattoos just doesn't sit right with me. Experimenting with an alternative to temp tattoos I posted over on the "other" forum about making my own tattoo sleeve with the "sparrow" tattoo. So if any of you are debating the tattoo thing, then there is another alternative.
The photos I took of the "experiment" are available here

A bit late on this thread
But I got the tattoo, right size and everything, (might even get the P branded professionally)
Also I have legitimately decided to change my last name to Sparrow it'll be about a year before I am able to and small chance I may back out. But unlikely.

Re: What's your biggest dedication to "being Jack"
Mannerisms and voice are always my first priority, but I also pride myself by adding a little of me to Jack as well so that I kinda stand out from other Jacks. I once had a kid look me in the eyes and asked "Jack why do you have blue eyes?" I looked back and asked him if he watched At Worlds End and remembered the part where Sparrow was in the locker with a bunch of other Jacks and he said yes. I then tell him that I was one of those Jacks in the locker and that we all had escaped with the real Jack Sparrow. The kid was floored!!! Stories and being able to react to any age group is a lot of fun and people remember you that way.
