MWE&D Adventures of Captain Jack - Help on Copal Amber Bead??
Gooday gents!
Is there anyone that knows the exact/approx. size (in mm) of the screen used Yellow/Butterscotch Copal Amber bead on the Kuchi Dangle? I have found a couple resources in Tibet and Africa for genuine vintage beads, however, I am unclear as yet on what the size in mm is or as close as we can get - I know there are fellow scallywags out there that have handled the original prop and others that have managed to commandeer some nice examples of this prominent bead! Any assistance would be appreciated mates!

If you're going for authentic antique copal, size and shape differ slitely. This can also be seen throughout the movies. However, the OST bead is definitely a lot more long and lean shaped. I did see those on occasion as well at fairs and markets, but wasn't interested. The thing with antique trade beads, when sold separately prices are doable (5 to 15 bucks, depending on size and age), but mostly they are sold as chains/necklace...meaning a lot of money...

I appreciate your response and agree with you regarding the variations in the films (even within the same film) and the difficulty in finding examples that match or come close, for sale separately. Do you happen to have any single examples for sale or know where I may find one. I have purchased the best example that I could find for the money currently via a contact I found on Ebay - HOWEVER, I am extremely particular and want to go for screen accuracy as much as possible. I am not yet convinced that the bead I bought will fill that order. You on the other hand, understand so if you happen to have a bead or know where I may find one I would trust purchasing it. If the bead I have coming is not right I am going to flip it immediately on Ebay. If it is right on, GREAT, but I am still interested to see if you have one or know a good resource.
Thank you mate!
PS
If you want to see the most odd strand I have seen yet in the films - I have attached a screen shot I captured from AWE while watching it the other night for reference on the very topic we are discussing. I have been looking around everyone at great length to find the right beads and this image I captured sort of thru me for a loop. I am no expert, so perhaps you or someone else on here may know the facts behind this strand. It appears to me that the Filigree metal barrel (or oblong/egg shape in this photo) is different from others he wears, and the top of the strand has a very chopped up looking yellow "bead" - almost like painted wood. Also, from all other photos I have scene, I don't recognize the two top beads. The silver looks a little like the tribal metal bead from P1.
Anyway...thanks again mate and I look forward to hearing from you!

Re: MWE&D Adventures of Captain Jack - Help on Copal Amber Bead??
The strand shown in this screenshot is probably the same as can be seen in the high-res AWE promo photo's of Jack Sparrow/Depp (those studio grey background pic's).
The silver bead you mentioned, it it shown from the side in this screenshot, explaining the different image. It has a front image that is different from the back image, tide together by a "leave-shaped" image at the sides. The small yellow bead is probably also some old trade bead, but I'm thinking it is made of some sort of clay or stone(?), so perhaps african. Glass trade beads are mostly from Venice. The COTBP strand sports a green glass trade bead instead.
Let me know when your copal bead has arrived. If it is an old yellow copal, it should be a right one. But indeed, you can only be sure when you're holding it in your hands.
If it is not what you're hoping for, perhaps I can help you out, although I rather hold on to the ones I got.

My bead is very old indeed - it should arrive today or upon the morrow! I will keep you posted and appreciate your willingness to potential help a fellow Pirate out if need be! I would do the same for you - Stick to the Code!
