Got some new boots....
With the various and contradictory reports back on Caboots, rather than risk an expensive mistake (overseas postage, possible returns etc...) I decided to egg some made by a local cobbler.
The result? A made to measure, 100% leather (and I mean 100%...soles! heels too!) that fit perfectly from the start.
I know they are not 100% SA, but with some weathering, I am impressed!

Very nice. May I inquire as to how much you paid?

Re: Got some new boots....
Awesome mate! What measurements did you get?
I.e., shaft height, cuff length, cuff width etc?...
Thanks!

These boots are really cool! With some weathering they could turn to the most screen accurate boots at all.
What did you pay for them?

Re: Got some new boots....
Fellow pirates, thank you for your compliments. I paid €180. The guy took my measurements and then applied the Mark one eyeball to determine where the bell should sit etc. Consequently, I gave him no measurements per se!! An old guy who knows his trade! Can give actual measurements if anyone is interested!

What about some new pictures after weathering your boots...?
I´m very interested in the final look of your awesome boots.

Hi Bandit,
Unfortunately, weathering (along with everything else) has had to take a back seat. Been away with work for 6 months and will not be able to do anything for another 4 months!!!
Thank you for maintaining your interest though my friend.

Re: Got some new boots....
Hi mate. Good thank you. Just back...,again! Apologies for the unacceptable delay. As requested:
Shaft is 18" (from top of sole)
Bell length 10"
Bell width 12"
I am 5'10" with 32" inside leg. Only think I don't have us the cowboy type heel and boxed toe. Being hand made, difficult to achieve, but I am looking at adding an extra sole and heel to compensate.
Let me know if you need more. Cheers.

Re: Got some new boots....
Thanks heaps mate!
Is the cuff 10" both front and back or is it a bit shorter at the back?...
I think these look great!
In regard to the heel, do the screen used boots have a cowboy heel? I've always felt they did, but have been told it's a wrestler heel.
How high are your heels?
Thanks again!!

Re: Got some new boots....
Thanks for the compliment mate. Made an error typing last night. Cuff is actually 10.5 (not 10) going to just over 9.5 at the back. Done to give that 'relaxed' look Jack has. The heels are just over 1.5. Not sure what a wrestler heel is but certainly looks western-ish. That's the only regret I have on mine regarding SA, but to be honest, it makes them more comfortable for those long days in costume.
Shout if you need nothing else mate.
Cheers again.

Thanks mate! That's a great help.
I'm guessing you're heels might be about 1 5/8" from that photo. They look really good. The 'wrestler heel' is what Caboots offers. But it looks just like a basic squared off heel... I kind of feel as though Jack's boot heels are different to that...

Re: Got some new boots....
No problem at all. I saw your other post too - good hunting. In fact, just looked at the Caboot site - looks like they copied my boots - did they always shape the cuff like that? See what you mean about the heel - prefer mine now, having seen their latest run. And again, agree with you, think Jack's are more 'Cuban/Western - ish'. I admit that my sole is not quite SA, being thinner/slimmer, but an additional double sole could remedy that.
Anyway, sure you will have looked into it, but it might be worth looking for an 'old fashioned' cobbler who would be willing to make to your spec. I was fortunate enough to find the guy in Cyprus - and despite the language barrier, with pictures and the measurements he took, fit perfectly from the off (only downside to a leather sole out where I am now, is that the rain slowly permeates if you are in it for any length of time! I can live with it! ). My leather is also softer - not being cowhide!
Shout if I can help any further. Cheers.

Thanks heaps mate! I wonder if your boot maker would be interested in making a pair for others?... A good custom boot maker is very hard to find... I'll send you a PM later with more details.
As for the Caboots cuff, I think it always was supposed to have an angled cuff as that's what they made for the films (P2 and P3) but sometimes they seem to do a straight cuff and other times angled... Seems to depend...
Thanks again!
