My Captain Jack start
Let me first say this: I originally did this to please my girlfriend for halloween. I then started to take it more seriously and am really enjoying it. I know I'll never be 100% accurate, but I'm trying I'm still not sure how everything attaches/ties, but I think for a quick photo this outfit is on pretty well. I am putting more dreads in the wig soon and will be ordering some caboots towards the middle/end of september. I've gotta drop about 10lbs too before halloween.
Thanks to some nagging/complaining I got a GREAT deal on the wig, belts, and a stand-in baldric that is still on the way.
I'd love to know what you guys think for my first try. The pants, shirt, waistcoat, and sash all came from Risu on these boards.

Re: My Captain Jack start
wow ALOT better than my first start! It looks to me you need a new sail needle though.
Re: My Captain Jack start
Yeah, the sail needle suuuuuuucks. It came with the wig and didn't look as pictured, but I can live with it for right now. Like I said I got a great deal (IMO) on the wig/bandanna setup so I'm not going to complain too much about the sail needle. I have 15 more dreads coming in which will put me at the 40 mark and I think it'll be a great wig at that point. You can't tell it, but I've weathered the waistcoat and will be further weathering once I get a second to catch my breath.

Sure! I was planning on buying one, but if I can save some cash I'm all for it.

Re: My Captain Jack start
haha it's pretty easy and cost less than $5.00 all you need is white/ translucent polymer clay. I bake and lightly sanded mine and painted a coat of off white acrylic paint on it. let it tack up and rubbed the rest off with a dry paper towel. done!

Not bad mate. Don't worry about the 100% screen accuracy thing, only one person was ever 100% screen accurate and he got payed a lot of money to do it. You're costume is a lot further along than what I got. I just have been buying wig trinkets mostly and then spluge once in a while on a higher priced item. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever get my wig done lol.
Anyway, I was curious on what your next upgrades or additions will be to your costume.

Re: My Captain Jack start
As it stands I need a new sailing needle, the belt effects, boots, lace, and a few other tidbits.
I plan on ordering some caboots in a few weeks. I was going to order them today, but another opportunity came up that I just could not pass up and Jack has to come in second to that. I'm going to replace the sailing needle and add more dreads to the wig first. I would eventually want to replace the waistcoat (or maybe just add the button holes). The shirt and pants are all really nice quality items. Sash is ikea and fine for me. The wig and belts are from empire, but as i said I got a FANTASTIC deal on them that really made it worth the purchase. I should replace the wristwrap; it's one I made and is okay from a distance. Same goes for the glove. I still need to get the beard extensions and a skull ring also. I don't know that I will ever end up purchasing a frock coat or a hat.

not sure just yet. I found out yesterday that I had to have my wisdom teeth taken out next week and that I absolutely need tires tomorrow so I may have this up on the chopping block after Halloween.
