Weighing down/filling up Toy Sword for baldric stability
Hey mates,
Not sure if you have the same issue but most events don't allow real steel/aluminum weapons.
My toy Disney sword is just too light and doesn't hold my leather baldric in place by weighing it down.
Is there a way to open the toy sword, fill it with some weight, and seal it back up?
that would feel more like a real sword, abide by the rules AND hold the baldric steady.
Looking forward to your creative ideas..

How about lead tape?
Golfers use it
Golfers use it
The right reason for using lead tape is to increase the swingweight of the club; i.e., to increase the feel of more weight or "heft" in the clubhead. For that purpose, one 4-inch-long strip of half-inch wide lead tape will increase the swingweight of any club by one point.

Sounds like a good idea! Can you elaborate on how to apply it to the sword?
Re: Weighing down/filling up Toy Sword for baldric stability
Haha...I'm not a golfer, I just thought it may work, since it has some weight and an adhesive backing.
Maybe apply to the edge of the sword with from tip to the hilt?
Being somewhat of the same color, it'd match okay.
HIGH DENSITY LEAD FOIL TAPE
Ideal for fitting. 30% heavier than standard lead tape, High Density Lead Tape is adhesive backed and can be applied quickly and easily or left on permanently.

Oi Val! You could drill some small holes about the size of a ball bearing or BB in the hilt and end of the blade.
Buy some BBs and start putting them one by one through the hole into the blade and hilt area. Put in as many as you can so that the weight seems sufficient to hold everything in place.
Now get some 5 minute drying epoxy resin. The kind that comes in the tubes that are side by side and self mixing. It should come with some sort of adapter that you put on the end to make the tip more pointy. Squirt the epoxy resin into the hole to hold all the BBs in place.
Or you could get white or clear silicone sealer....the type you use for bathrooms or windows. Again drill a smaller or even slightly larger hole above the level of the BBs and fill up the area with silicone to hold the BBs in place.
When all said is done and dry get some plastic putty and plug up the holes. Let it dry, sand, and paint.
Again this is just an idea. I haven't tried it or planning on attempting it.

Well if you're going to drill hole(s) into the sword, couldn't you just fill it with sand and seal it?

If you drill through the pommel then you might go into the bottom of the blade. You don't really want to fill up the blade because it would make it top heavy.
I think opening the handle would be best, then you can fill it wherever you want the weight to be

Thanks for the ideas..but since I'm no shop expert, I would like to see someone do it and do a white paper on its success.
Also, Charles, the baldric I bought from you (with CSH engraved on it) was great for the MR sword, but the toy sword fits in it too tightly.
It's a bear to pull out of your baldric. Is there a fix for that?

Not without destroying it. The swords are definitely two different sizes which is why I make two different size scabbards.
I wouldn't recommend pulling apart the MR sword scabbard because it would destroy the finish.
I myself own four scabbards. One for each sword: MR and Disguise (plastic) in both black and brown. I rarely carry the MR sword anymore because of the fact that you can't bring steel to most events.

OK then, could I do a trade? please PM me for transaction details.
That would be greatly appreciated...
If you can't do a trade, then I'll sell this one and then pick up the toy scabbard one.

Re: Weighing down/filling up Toy Sword for baldric stability
Also, where do I get the kind of tape to hold the baldric in place by my hip or shoulder..or both?
Re: Weighing down/filling up Toy Sword for baldric stability
What? Double stick tape?
And rearding the actual DIY... I don't have a sword so I can't help you there, mate.

Re: Weighing down/filling up Toy Sword for baldric stability
Someone had mentioned something to hold the baldric in place..
Re: Weighing down/filling up Toy Sword for baldric stability
Perhaps Velcro tape, or hd double stick?
Re: Weighing down/filling up Toy Sword for baldric stability
Yeah I remember reading that on the Wiki. Not tried it but it but think it would work well on the shoulder. Wasn't it dried Barge cement?
