Re: On Stranger Vests....
I'm not sure I'd want to see the glare you get off that in bright sunlight! I'm not entirely sure the balance between the fabric and the pattern has quite been perfected there
Re: On Stranger Vests....
Wow, I have NO interest in the OST costume and vest, but THIS is NOT a pirate waistcoat... So shiny and yellow... The gold on the real vest is so dark that most people never noticed there is a pattern on the waistcoat at all, it's sort of transparent... ish.
Wow, almost every ebay listing of costumebase Jack items says "EXACT" and none of them are...

Re: On Stranger Vests....
Huh. Not bad I'd say, if someone was really desperate to upgrade to OST. I mean, the design in the fabric is printed instead of woven, but this might actually be an advantage, because it might make the whole thing easier to darken, with some creative dying and distressing. Personally, I wouldn't touch it (I'm too caught up on the texture issue, and the fact that it's printed instead of woven that way), but I bet there are folks out there who could use it as a starting point for a really nice looking OST vest.
Re: On Stranger Vests....
Well for my birthday I'm gonna save for a embroidered waistcoat so I wont be buying this one
Re: On Stranger Vests....
I ordered this vest and hope to have it for Texas Renfair Pirates Weekend. I will post pics and details once it arrives.

I know it is not exact, but I hope that it will be decent. I also, agree with others that say the vest detail is not really that noticable by the average viewer. And I would not be surprised if they totally change it again for the next movies.

Re: On Stranger Vests....
well after you get it in the mail, take great pics of it, and show it to all of us.... you have a whole community of guys who have a "vested interest" in helping you figure that out....
Re: On Stranger Vests....
definitely like the printing better on that one, but I'm not a fan of the ultra-shiney material. Still, I'll be very interested to see what you do with it!
Re: On Stranger Vests....
Well my new "very Affordable and Budget" OST vest came in from Cosplaying China.
Since I have not had the pleasure of owning an ACME or Yordream OST vest I cannot trully compare it. However, I feel with some mods and weathering it could be "decent." Besides replacing buttons and the back for sure, I am not really sure what the best method is to weather this piece. If feels like satin. The pattern is a felt like material. I do like that it is not too gold, and actually the pattern is kind of two-toned. So my fellow brothers, feel free to view the pics at the link below and I will post a video of it soon. I also took a picture in sunlight to show the colors in different light. Cheers!

Re: On Stranger Vests....
the 'felt like material' should be flocking, like the new OST CB coat..it must be easier to do than embroider. That's an interesting lining, I'd like to see what you do to this vest
Re: On Stranger Vests....
I replaced the back fabric with new black lining. I also made it longer too. I am by no means a seamstress, but as of now it is a little better. Still not sure about the silky look.
Re: On Stranger Vests....
As soon as I get home I will do that mate. I am pretty sure this thing will never be 100% accurate, but I think it will be a close 2nd or 3rd.
Re: On Stranger Vests....
Well, phase 1 is complete and now I have to plan for phase 2. I know it is not perfect, but so far not bad. Savvy?
Re: On Stranger Vests....
What's it look like while wearing? Is the cut around the chest area full or normal?
Re: On Stranger Vests....
I am not sure, maybe a little in between. I will be wearing it at the Texas Ren Fair this weekend and I will take plenty of pics.
Re: On Stranger Vests....
the vest looks good, mate. which is why I was wondering...it looks good off, so I'm wondering if it will look good on.
