Your Costume: Before and After...
Everyone started somewhere...
I know costuming is a never ending improvement process... and I know us Pirates are some of the most dedicated to our craft. I want to see everyones 'first draft' and a photo of where they're at now!!
Let's have Johnny start this one out...
Ok... so I may have only picked these ones for the facial expressions...but in all seriousness, let's try to show as much of the costume as possible and feel free to discuss you're favourite pieces, what you refuse to change, what you're working on currently, etc etc.

Then....
And....
NOW!!!
Obviously, the wig is a work in progress. My favorite pieces are my frock coat because I am majorly proud of that thing even though I still have a dozen or so buttons/buttonholes to finish and my hat, because well, it's my hat I plan on making a new waistcoat with one of the stencils that has been floating around, but am in no rush because KC Renfest isn't until September, but I will never part with this waistcoat because it was constructed by my Grandma so it's got some sentimental value keeping it from being gotten rid of. Oi! And me boots!! So proud of those because I also made those myself

Re: Your Costume: Before and After...
Great thread! I love this kind of stuff!
You guys have both definitely come a long way! And Red: you practically look like a totally different person! Actually, you both do, but I feel it's more pronounced on Red. Total transformation! Nicely done!
As for myself, I love posting pictures of my very first Jack costume, simply because it was so wretchedly awful, haha.
So here's my first ever Jack Sparrow costume, way back at Halloween 2003 (yep, you read that right, heh). I had only actually seen the movie once, about two months previously, so I couldn't remember a lot about the costume. Apparently I completely forgot he had dreadlocks, and I also couldn't remember how long his beard braids were... yikes.
Over the next couple years I started to become more obsessed, and tried to put together other incarnations of the costume, mostly from borrowed pieces I picked up in the rental department of this costume shop I worked at back then. But in 2005 I decided to really upgrade, so this next one is of my first really "serious" attempt to replicate his costume. Most of it was made by an amazingly talented seamstress friend who also worked at the abovementioned costume shop. She even made me the pictured compass, which was constructed entirely from cardboard and styrofoam. I entered the costume contest at the local sci-fi convention, and I tied for best in show with a group of screen-accurate Predators. Needless to say I was pretty psyched
Aaaaaand here I am as of Halloween 2010. I have since updated several things about the costume, however. I've just finished a brand new wig, and I also made a new waistcoat completely by myself, which fits a lot better.
And because I'm a total picslut, here are a few others of me from THIS year, with new vest, wig, etc:
And the most recent ones, from the premier (sorry for the terrible quality):

Re: Your Costume: Before and After...
Ok crew, this is your captain speaking.... ha ha...
After a year of being a humble pirate of KTTC, it is my pleasure to say "Thank you" to the many men and women... (scratch that/ rogue's and wenches) who have helped me commandeer the costume that I have today. If it were not for your smart alec remarks, sarcasm, jibes, envy, and critical eyes... I would not be where I am today. This thread is but my simple chronicle of how that all came about.
The costume that started it all... Halloween 2009 (mostly costume base and the cannibal Jack child's dress up kit) and I made my own bead dangles.
Version 2 was a few months later, after I got the IKEA sash, the right sword, pelts and a new wig
Version 3 was March 2010, had most of the gear except the baldric and boots, but I was in need of a lot of tweaks, which was what prompted THIS thread the first time around.
And finally, Version 4
Stuff that has changed since this picture, added the mystery coin to my wig, trimmed my mustache and bought an ACME sash - and new baldric conchos from UM
Even now, I am still but a humble pirate, I clearly STILL am not 100% SA (nor will ever be, that was not my intent starting out) nor will I ever have all of the information, or be as authoritative as the many wonderful voices that grace these boards.
If you would ever want or ask my advice, I will always be more than happy (and humbled) to offer. Thank you KTTC (members insert your names here) again for putting up with my ignorance, annoying posts, immaturity, hastyness, brash and boldness for over a year. It was fun having you for my home.

Holy moly!!! Great response and what's even more great is the clear dedication you all have to your improvements!!!! Incredible work!! You've all come a really far way and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's costume upgrades, improvements and updates as time goes on! I know my Jack is certainly due for one... >_>

I know my Jack is certainly due for one..
yea Miss, "I started this thread" .... where is YOUR Jack's entry?
Re: Your Costume: Before and After...
I agree, missy we need to see what a Canadian Jack looks like....
Re: Your Costume: Before and After...
Well... we haven't had the finances or time to improve Jack very much with me working on Angelica... so he's been using his 'starter' costume pretty much for everything. :p The big updates will come very soon... or in time...he just bought a car, I need to buy a new one, and we're STILL trying to move out in the next year and houses ain't cheap!
Here are a couple comparisons of things we switched up in our very small steps... ( which is basically none )
Version one. No beard extensions... undyed facial hair... boot covers 'cause they didn't get there in time... almost black coat with defective front lapel...barely any makeup... lack of rings... apparently we forgot to tuck the shirt in.
Version two. Beard extensions added, boots finally came, compass added ( all the other flaws still there )
Version three. Gold tooth added ( for this time only because it was a total chincy RIPOFF and sucked terribly ). Coat weathered ( by sitting outside in the rain and sun for a week or so ). Makeup improving slightly... lol
Version four. Makeup a success! At least... as successful as he's gotten. He's got a thing about stuff poking around his eyes so the liner has always been a challenge. LOL OST style vest added ( though without buttonhole trim or even the right amount of buttons... just went with the design for an update ). Splotches of blonde thrown in the wig...
Jeez... compared to all you's I have been severely half-assing his Jack. He's going to be so mad at me if he ever sees this thread. AND I'LL HAVE TO BLAME YOU, MOJO!
Most important items to update: sash ( DEFINITELY the sash. ASAP. ) and boots. Possibly work the wig into the convertible wig as originally planned but ran out of time for...We also bought gold tooth paint. Eventually the belts will be changed up... not too concerned about the baldric. It works just fine. And I guess finish at least one version of a vest. Lord, I'm so lazy... No! No, not lazy... SO BUSY! With my own costumes to wear with his. Yes, that's it. Have you SEEN my Angelica? I SLAVED ON THAT THING! And soon I'm remaking that! SO THERE!!!
But even with the making-do pieces we have right now, when it's all on and together and he's sauntering around in it, it still looks so darn good and I'm still proud of it. I think I'll actually emit a blinding otherworldly glow when we upgrade it and it looks GREAT instead of just so good. It's a work in constant progress.
Looking back, we should probably get him a pair of real breeches too... the brown pants came in for AWE when the DMC/AWE pants were in retrospect, more taupe... I think I planned on weathering and fading the ones he had but never got around to it. I want to switch back to gray like CotBP/OST style with brown boots... just the look I like better. Will have to discuss with him...
