Fabricating A Beard And Tash
After sporting a beard and tash for the past month it has begun to dawn on me, as good as a real one looks with my costume, looking in the mirror every day there is nothing I hate the look of more than that heave ho thing on my face. I have now decided that as soon as I can either fabricate a realistic looking one or purchase one then I can finnaly have a shave
Do any of you have any advice that could help with fabricating one, I've heard liquid latex is used. I have some brown crepe hair and spirit gum. I need to make one that I can re use.
Alternativly do any of you know where I can purchase a good looking set?

Re: Fabricating A Beard And Tash
I used spirit gum and kanekalon hair from an old wig, turned out great mate.
it takes a little longer to apply but in the end it looks much more better savvy
make sure you glue small strands of hair/crepe/kanekalon at the time , you don't want to glue a whole bulk at the same time.
start on your chin and work your way up in layers this will make it look best.
hope this helps, cheers!

Thanks, I'm guessing this method would work for the beard too?
It all looks good but my only reservation is if the spirit gum fails and it all falls off unfortunatly that is what happened with my beard braids at my last gig.

Re: Fabricating A Beard And Tash
To help with spirit gum, I actually watched some "how to" videos on youtube.
Re: Fabricating A Beard And Tash
I personally do NOT in any way advise the use of spirit gum. I used it my first year or so as Jack and it was miserable. If you sweat even a little, or if the day gets too warm, that stuff will fail you every time.
As an alternative, I recommend Duo eyelash adhesive (as long as you're not alergic to latex). In the words of the illustrious Mr. Depp, "you could glue a boat to water with this stuff," AND you can get it cheap at pretty much any drugstore (at least in the US. Not sure about the UK, actually).

latexy sounds good (and sexy) but does it clean up? How well does it come off the back of your stache?
Re: Fabricating A Beard And Tash
This is a good point, and honestly, I don't actually know, since I only use it for my beard braid extensions. However, I do know that it basically peels off, like... well I don't quite know like what. Rubber cement, sort of. At any rate, it should all peel off. And if you don't use too much of it, I don't think it'll cause a problem on the back of a theatrical facial hair appliance, other than perhaps getting stuck in the mesh a little.
Also, the stuff is very flexible once it dries, so that's a plus.

Re: Fabricating A Beard And Tash
I got away with growing a beard and mustache for three weeks. It was looking really really great. So what happened?
My wife told me "If you ever want me to kiss you again, you need to shave that THING off your face".
My 2 year old daughter keeps coming up to me and petting my face saying "Where your beard go daddy all gone"?

Fake is fake.
I am always hard pressed to take a false facial haired jack serious. If you have managed to fool me even in photographs I tip my hat, but ask ANY Santa, a beard that can be tugged on is key.

When I see bad facial hair now, I always think "hey, it's Angelica impersonating Jack!"
I even had to trim my goatee, my braids were too long this year!
