It be a good day to be a pirate! (my costume items came!)
I had 3 separate shipments coming in from 3 separate people and they all arrived on the same day! Talk about perfect timing!
First a new Disney store compass kit, courtesy of Shylaah. (we need to get her on here, seriously, she's a hoot to work with )
Then a small package from Swagarts. I had to jump on the OST dread bead she had before they were gone, and added a few other items to justify the shipping. I like the 2 items on the far right the best!
Then the holy grail of items, the ACME OST waistcoat kit!
The only thing is, I think he forgot the buttons. Has anyone else here, received an OST waistcoat kit from Richard (ACME)? Did you get buttons included? I emailed him asking about it but he hasn't' responded yet. He seems to be a busy man as of late, trying to fulfill orders before the OST premiere in DL no doubt.

I wish acme had more of those kits......boo.... totally awesome though
Re: It be a good day to be a pirate! (my costume items came!)
Richard said buttons are NOT included in the kits. I got mine yesterday.
He also said that he may have more kits available in the near future, but they would be put on ebay as auctions. No doubt they would go for a pretty penny!

Well, from what I understand, the buttons are fairly easy to find. So no big deal there, I suppose.

He must have mistyped then, cuz in the email he sent me he said "and buttons" in the list of things that it comes with. I guess I'll just wait on his reply before I go hunt some buttons down. Oh well. Still an awesome kit!

Hhhmmm... Interesting. I just looked back at everything. The e-mail he sent me said "No buttons". However, the first 3 kits he sold a few weeks ago included buttons (according to his post on KTTC), but he didn't included details in his listing for the second batch of 3 on KTTC or facebook, I want some buttons!

I've found a supplier in the right colour, but they only had 30 buttons left. Enough for me, but not anymore alas. As with everything it's a matter of price - I have to buy literally thousands of them, and clearly I'm not going to ever sell them all, so unless I can make enough to cover my costs it's not really worth me ordering unless I know I have sufficient demand, especially when there are similar buttons available on the market fairly cheaply. I only ever ended up selling the other ones as it was the only way to get some for my own costume!

Buttons, buttons, who's got the buttons?! I woulda payed a little extra to get buttons if it's true they weren't included, but maybe he's just out of them.
Or, maybe he's just playing "hide the button" with us? Kinda like "hide the cucum..." oh wait, that's the wrong game.

I got jipped a little by richards vest as well. No blue vest material on the back of the pocket flaps. I hope he's not just tryin to cut corners and see if anyone notices.
EDIT: maybe not

To be honest, I'm not at all sure the backs of the pocket flaps are in fact made of the outside material on the screen-used waistcoat. They weren't on the one from movies 1-3, I am quite certain. Many waistcoats of that period had pokcet flaps lined in the same fabric as the pocket lining, or as the back of the vest. Frankly, I'd think self-lined pocket flaps with this material would be quite bulky. Anyway, just my two pence.

I concur! I was thinking the same thing. When I make mine, I'll probably make the back of the flap lined with the muslin that was sent in the kit. It just makes more sense to me, don't know why...it just does.
Plus I noticed this on the movie poster of Jack's full torso...
You can tell the edge of the flap is lighter in color at the seam, indicating a lighter colored material on the back. At least that's what I think.
Looks like Yordreem is doing a different lining on the back as well. You can't see the back, but it's a really big pic that you can zoom in on and you can see the detail of the edge of the pocket flap...

Turn textile garden copper buttons to brass
Original buttons available at TextileGarden.
You can easily turn copper into brass
Be careful ! Buttons are made of pewter (or something), so not too much heat !!
sodium hydroxide + zinc + buttons : I've used a double boiler to avoid too much heat
Once, it turns into silver, I've exposed them to heat (not directly on the electric burner !!)
Now, you have gold !!

Re: It be a good day to be a pirate! (my costume items came!)
Well, no reply from ACME on the buttons. Guess I'll just take that as a "No". Guess I'll have to hunt some down from the suggested places.
Also, what is a recommended pattern for the waistcoat? I believe ACME and Yordreem basically came up with their own designs. But would be nice to find something similar...preferable a rockstar style lol. After all, Jack is "THE" rockstar among pirates.

What I did was to basically make a hybrid of the Simplicity pattern and the Reconstructing History 1700's waistcoat pattern. I believe Shylaah also has a really good guide to altering the Simplicity pattern on the Jackaholic page.

I modified the Simplicity similarly to how Shylaah did. I'll be using the same pattern on my ACME material as well.
