Frock Coat: Licorice Raffia Vs. Ebony Raffia?
Does anyone have any comparison pics of the Licorice and Ebony Raffia coat materials? I see Scott is using Licorice for his coats now, and was wondering exactly what it looked like next to the Ebony...

Check out Shylaah's blog. She has a very in depth article about both cloth colors.

Personally, I have the Licorice from Yordreem and I love it. Mine is a couple years old, so it's not the new Licorice that Shylaah is talking about and it DOES have the Blue/Grey threads in it. As she says, it's all a matter of personal preference and what is available. I don't think you could go wrong either way since everything looks different in the films depending on lighting. I remember in CotBP when Jack's bandanna looked like the faded pink from AWE in one scene under light and then next frame was back to bright red.

I like the blue cast the ebony has though, LOL...Dang it....
One thing I'd still like to see on Scott's coat is a correct back where the pleats are. I would of bought one sooner if it he would of fixed it. I just love how the coat lays at the end of DMC, and I'm holding out for someone to offer something that looks exactly like that.

Licorice Raffia http://www.lsfabrics.com/fabric_catalog.php?pid=10429
Nezumi Ebony http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?pageName=search&flag=true&PRODID=zprd_02324697a
(on sale this week at Joanne's)
Which right now at $19 a yd would be $120 for 6 yards (and you still need lining, interfacing, a pattern, thread for the buttons holes and buttons)

That looks like the licorice to me Cristian. Unfortunately at the moment I can't take pictures, as my coat is at home and I am not. I can say thought that the only weathering I've done to my coat was using a seam-ripper to get the "moth eaten" worn down sections, haven't even begun to attempt the bleach sunning.

Didn't L&S offer a "Java" color when the ebony was almost gone? I swear I saw it on their site, and it looked (from memory) really close to the pics Cristian posted.

Oooooooh... yeah... nuts... that stuff from Joann is REEEEAAAAALY tempting... Gah, and here I thought I was settled with my coat fabric.
Re: Frock Coat: Licorice Raffia Vs. Ebony Raffia?
My mother-in-law is finishing up my jacket (should be done in a couple days) using the Licorice raffia... I only have a couple pieces on in the one pic, just to see how everything fits together. So far, I am loving the coat and can't wait to see everything together!
Re: Frock Coat: Licorice Raffia Vs. Ebony Raffia?
That licorice can look really dark when not weathered or in bright light!
Cristian, any luck with finding fabric? I figured since I don't have the ebony for a 1-3 coat, I might as well work on an OST coat.

Might just be me, but I like the Licorice blue/greyish look alot. If YD upgrades his back pleat placement, I'd jump on a new coat.

Re: Frock Coat: Licorice Raffia Vs. Ebony Raffia?
All versions of the raffia have a distinctive brown and beige weave of polyester fibres running one way which I don't think is noticable on the new fabric, which leads me to think it's not any of the raffias
Re: Frock Coat: Licorice Raffia Vs. Ebony Raffia?
When I look at this coat up close, I can't see the blue/gray threads, the threads look black to me.
Clearly in the pic of the pocket, the blue/gray threads arrr visible...weird.
So, this *is* EBONY...?
