Jack's Flag
I've always wanted to reproduce Jack's Flag but never really got around to it. I was just asked to portray Jack Sparrow commandeering a small old wooden dingy at the Nor Cal Pirate Festival this year, so I thought I better make the boat look like it belonged to Jack. What better excuse needed to make Jack's Flag. For now it hangs in my den.

Re: Jack's Flag
Did some historical research on line about how Pirate Flags were made in the 1700's I found an article about Thomas Cocklyn a famous English Pirate of the 18th century, and at his Trial it was discussed how he and his crew made their Flags. They were made of a wool bunting or old sail cloth, sometimes heavy silk. All designs were hand painted on . So I found some nice flowing black fabric, stretched it tight and hand painted on the design. Did a bit of shading around some of the edges then airbrushed some greys, and browns to create the weathered effect I liked. Ripped the edges roughly and put in a few tears.

Outstanding Mate! Makes my one from Ebay look positively amateur (although to be fair, I knew it was a cheap polyester thing and was only hung in the office to upset someone from the Navy!! )

Re: Jack's Flag
I started another one today. This one is a lot bigger and will be hanging on the Chamberlain Dory I will be Captaining at the Nor Cal Pirate Festival.
Preliminary Sketching and some shading started to help with the weathered effect later on.
If anyone is interested in one, I was thinking of offering them in the Captains Daughter

Nice work mate!
I'd be interested in a smaller sized flag if you ever make them. One that can be carried by hand, perhaps attached to some kind of stick so it can be carried around by me crew members at events etc.
Cheers me heartie!

A great item to offer up - obviously (assuming you are States side!) postage and the East India taxes (now known as Customs ) may preclude?? What price do ye think ye might be charging if said plan comes to pass?

Re: Jack's Flag
Looking at around $70.00 for single sided, because of the amount of time to hand paint all the details then weather it up, made to be displayed on a wall
