My new Pistol - Denix conversion Empty My new Pistol - Denix conversion

Post  Mondas42 Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:03 am

I have just finished my new pistol, I was using the cheap cheap Zizzle knockoff conversion. Its okay but at the end of the day, its a plastic toy - it feels like a plastic toy - it has the weight of a plastic toy - Its a plastic toy!

I could not afford one of the proper expensive pistols so I started looking at the Denix range to convert one. I know a lot of people use the Kentucky one but I cannot work in metal so this would be difficult. However I stumbled across this one; - the George Washington pistol:-

It seemed to have the correct basic shape and so I ordered one. After a bit of dremmling and painting I am left with this:

and with the toy pistol to compare:-

I know its not perfect and that the butt cap is too big, but I'm quite chuffed with it. What do you guys think?

Seeing as there's two of us, a gentleman would give us a pair of pistols.

http://www.amazon.com/Denix-Kentucky-Flintlock-Pistol-Gray/dp/B00C7BZ0TG/ref=cm_wl_huc_item

it's listed in their new products on the denix site.

ALSO - it's made out of a very heavy hardwood. it's great for photo ops - "Here, hold this!" and their arm drops unexpectedly due to the weight.  Laughing

I did look at the Kentucky pistol, but it was the square barrell that put me off. Still yours looks nice, might keep a look out for a cheap one.

I also got the Denix Kentucky Pistol off of Amazon.  It's a very nice-looking prop and feels great in the hand.  Yes, the square barrel isn't all that SA, but the whole pistol is pretty close, and no one but us Jacks are ever going to know the difference.  I got the SS Grotesque Butt Cap from York County Firelocks.  I plan to take the whole pistol apart and strip and stain the wood to a darker color.  I will also see if there is anything that can be done to round the barrel, but I doubt there's much that I can do without messing up the entire pistol somehow.

In all, it's a very nice pistol in both appearance and feel, even if not a spot-on replica.  I like it!

it's pretty close. seeing as jack's pistol is half octagonal and half round..Mondas42's is fully round, and the kentucky is fully octagonal. I chose based on the shape of the overall pistol, and stole the buttcap and decorative plate from the toy, and put them into the kentucky.
