Great trade I made...
I love the idea of trading between cosplay/costuming enthusiasts. I thought I would share my successful trade experience...
I needed three more items to feel comfortable calling my costume "done for now".
A decent sash, fur pelts and, due to some issue with paint, some replacement Kuchi beads.
Sithworld sells nice versions of all of these items but the total cost with shipping would have been 135 USD... yikes!
I couldn't justify spending that much. So I offered up a trade via eBay messenger to Sithworld;
the items I needed for ten of my homemade fids(pictured below▼). My cost was $20 total but I valued them at $150 (Had four previous sales on ebay @ 15USD + shipping).
Given the prices of some of his items and a few rants I've have read regarding his service I expected him to be greedy, fight the idea of trading or ask for a ridiculous amount of fids in exchange... but no.
He was super nice and easy going and agreed to my initial terms without even a counter-offer.
Everything was sent as promised not to mention a follow-up email complimenting the quality and look of my wares and to top it off a thank you.

Nicely done!
I wasn't aware that Sithworld was open to trades. Interesting to know.
What do you make your fids out of? They look really good
btw I got to use the OST wrist wrap I got from you this weekend and it worked out very nicely!

Yeah I as well was surprised he was open to trading but I did offer something that only one or two other shops carry... and, in my opinion, my version is the better looking of the few. I also promised I would not list any on eBay so as not to compete with the exact same item.
I make them out of a specific colored plastic clothes hanger(which are just molded from resin). I use the longer bottom portion and cut out about 9" take it outside and thin it down on the dirty sidewalk as I find sandpaper to be much too efficient, creating a smoother finish then I want... also after some shaping and carving with grandpas old Buck whittlers knife, the dirt it picked up on the sidewalk make it look more like aged bone. I shape the needle tip using high git sand paper. I heat the blunt end and flatten it out while maintaining a rounded edge as much as possible and after it cools I scuff it up as well and cut a large hole in that with the whittlers knife in a twisting/screwing motion. Add a little distressed hemp twine and voila, bone fid.
The whole process is about 45 minutes to an hour.
Awesome about the wraps was really happy you liked them and they gave this stay at home dad something to do ;-)

Yay a re-order! 14 more fids in exchange for....
these▼
And these▼
I think I got the poopy end of the stick on this trade but it's not bad considering what they cost me to make and I got the good end on the last trade.
