Hey everybody, I've been trying to find meself a compass that looks like Jack's but behaves as an actual compass. Do any of you know where i could obtain said compass? Or do you have any advice on building one. Have any of you attempted this before? Thank you.

The Wood Compass Tutorial is the closest thing I know to "making one"

But one that behaves like a REAL compass? No

Good Luck in your quest!

Hmm... this is going to be more difficult than i thought. Thanks for the tutorial! I suppose i could make the outer box, put in an actual large brass compass and have it look like jack's from the outside, but that would be too easy!! Laughing Also, can you tell me if there is any use of the fin on the compass, or do you think its purely aesthetic for the movies?

The fin is called a gnomon, and it is used to tell time,
You would make sure the compass was flat and level, then aim the gnomom tip to
north, the shadow cast would show you approximate time.
