Hello ye pirates,

I´ve also bought that Disney plastic toy sword and had to change this "golden and brown look" of it. Apart from that, I´m convinced, that it is a perfect base for modifying it ... the shape and details are great, so I used matte black spray-paint, a Dremel with a soft brush, fine sandpaper, and a newspaper, which I scrunched up and touched it in the paint for "weathering" the blade of the sword...

I also filled the screw holes with plastic and tried to give the handle a "wooden look"...
