I received my material from Scott at Pillowfort last year and had Yordreem make my vest. I spent a whole month in the vest, but it still looks too new. Does anyone have any experience weathering their vest or could give any tips? The gold is almost too gold and both that and the blue need to be dulled a lot.

I personally haven't had experience with weathering shiney OST waistcoats, but I would recommend using dulling spray to definitely tone down the shine. I've seen a fabric swatch sprayed with gold and gray to age it, but because you don't have swatches, I highly recommend the dulling spray. Unless you do happen to have miracle swatches around somewhere, you don't want to test gold/gray on the actual vest, no no. I'll have to check the brand name for you as it has slipped my mind a.t.m haha. Hopefully this somewhat helps, good luck!! Hope to see some before/after Very Happy

I am in the sun for about 16 days but not enough in the October sun to fade it.

As far as the dulling spray, I 've heard of it. I believe they use it in film work to take the shine off things.
I was also considering maybe some fullers earth to tone it down. At least it wouldn't be permanent.

I like the look of the grey spray or did he use both, and if so in what order? It still scares me to know I might mess up my vest. Where did you find those pictures because it was Scott Maul I got my material from?

Those pictures were posted here quite a while back, I think the original info came from Scott. You might contact him he would know the correct process.

Cristian was the one to post that pic first time around, somewhere on this board. I don't think he overlapped both sprays, if you look at the fabric swatches in pic, they are 2 different pieces of fabric. I think the gold makes the trim look too golden, but the grey dulls it down and makes it look nice and used.

Thanks for the info. I believe I have a swatch I can try this on.

I used the Meltonian gray on my OST vest. Worked wonders. Took down the shine of the gold and blue. A more dulled down version and only $7 to do it.
