Reworked EW Beads
Well, I sprung for the EW bead set and what I got appeared to be cast lead or pewter. They were a very dark grey and would not polish up to a good shine. I took them to work and cleaned them up with solvent in preparation for painting. So these are the steps I used:
1. One coat of black primer over the bare metal to give a good base and hide the interior.
2. One coat of Liquid Leaf - silver. This gave it the silver metallic shine that I was looking for. Dried for 3 days to make sure it was cured.
3. Cube bead got a wash of thinned black acrylic craft paint ( Delta Ceramcoat). Allow to dry and wipe off excess with a damp cloth.
4. Oval bead got multiple washes of craft paints. Allow to dry completely between colors!
a. Yellow and Burnt Sienna very thin to give the orangy oxidation color.
b. Burnt Umber wash to bring out the details and give it the grimy look.
c. Yellow and Burnt Umber extra thin just to give it a little more golden tint.
d. Clear spray to seal it all in place.
Here are the results, I think its close. What say you?
I'll post the finished strand when I have it restrung later.

Nice! Shouldn't the oval one be more bronze-ish than gold-ish? Seems just a bit too yellow to me.

By the way I just figured out where the Empire beads photos are from (I mean this, this and this). I believe it's a Madame Tussauds wax figure...

I'm really pleased with their oval bead, the cube bead is another matter I do like some aspects of it but it is entirely too big, maybe twice the SA size. The assembly lacks a certain finesse too, just tack welded together, no grinding or smoothing of weld beads It will do for now until I get off my arse and make a good one

They're both not entirely SA, but still they are MUCH more better than what a lot of people (definitely including me) have on their strands.
You should be more than happy with them.
