Flintlock Mod
hello all i am brand new to this board! I started this obsession last year. It started out when i went to Disney world and saw how happy jack made people. so now i am just working away trying to improve each piece. this is the pistol i bought off line then after some modding i sanded the whole thing down and carved all the detail and added the wood end then finally to this added the correct metal pieces, I bought brass and painted silver and more and more sanding and staining http://www.flickr.com/photos/62420962@N03/5682897112/in/photostream

That really is fantastic work, mate! You can be proud whenever you approach the wenches and ask 'em if they want to handle your pirate pistol.

Awesome mate, puts mine to shame! Love the way you got that wood-grain look to it.

Re: Flintlock Mod
Ah, righto! Yeah, that was a pretty great idea, I have to say! I very well may try doing the same, after seeing how awesome yours turned out! It's way more worthwhile in my opinion to modify a pistol that's actually made of wood and metal than one made of resin or plastic. I'd love to know more about the specific methods you used to modify it!
Re: Flintlock Mod
It was like 45 dollars but yes I went for that one really because it was close enough to the real Shape that I could work with it. Also the zizzel was not available at the time and I didn't want to spend 500-1000 on something for a costume

Re: Flintlock Mod
AYE! Totally understandable! What did you do for the barrel? Is it a completely different barrel, or did you somehow reshape the one that came with the pistol?
Re: Flintlock Mod
sorry i didn't document the process i tend to work fast and not stop. i used everything original except for switching the butt cap and side plate and trigger guard and thumb piece. the barrel i sanded down from octagonal to round where it should and did the little detail stuff with a dremmel http://www.flickr.com/photos/62420962@N03/5684972523/in/photostream

Re: Flintlock Mod
Nice! So what exactly did you use to completely reshape the barrel? I mean, it must've been quite the process. Did you use some machine to get the thing so nice and round?
Re: Flintlock Mod
no actually i just used sandpaper and a file and dremmal its just taking it slw and not rushing also you cannot go down to low or you will go through the barrel

Re: Flintlock Mod
Wow! Fantastic hand-work on that!
Also, at the tip of the stock, where you had to take the metal piece off below the barrel, did you have to add an extra piece of wood, or was there actually wood underneath the metal?

Re: Flintlock Mod
i made that got a piece of wood matched the size up to the brass end piece and drew the basic size then i cut it out that is the hardest part because it is very thin in the middle i glued it once i had it in place to make it all stronger i also glued the ram rod to the bottom to add more strength at my last appearance at a grade school for like 800 kids one snagged it out of my belts and proceeded to drop it! lol so i know its pretty strong, imagine dropping the master replica one!

Re: Flintlock Mod
Very nicely done! I am totally impressed! I'd love to try this myself, but I'm afraid it wouldn't come out half so well.
And yeah, those Master Replicas ones are definitely best used for "sitting there and looking pretty," haha.

Re: Flintlock Mod
it really wasnt that hard to put together the most expensive part were the metal castings

Re: Flintlock Mod
Yeah, I'm sure that's true. What did those run you, overall? I know I've seen a couple sites offering them in the past.
Ultimately, the part that daunts me the most is the barrel. I can't imagine getting it carved down to the right shape without either breaking it or making it all funky and lopsided.
