Oi! My pistol...
Fellas, how does one turn the toy flintlock of mediocrity into the real-looking flintlock of deadly awesomeness? I want to have a go at weathering it, making it look realistic. All help and advice is welcome as I havent a clue where to start (Maybe..gut it, fill it with weights/ballast so its heavy and paint it..but what paint?)

I have seen others on (another forum) that have filled it with glued in balast. Personally I didn't want a heavy gun - after all, it's still a costume and has to be worn and be comfortable.

Cool
I don't want a super massive heavy one just heavy enough that I can feel it. Not used to them being so light haha

Here's my modded Zizzle.
I removed the speakers and battery components, weighted it with bb's and glue, puttied the battery cover, and painted it all up. I also added the piece that goes behind and in front of the trigger guard.

Thats ace, exactly the look I was going for. What colour paint did you use? I'm using a pewter finish as it'll come out more aged, dull than gun-metal. And maybe a nut brown wood. removing the components today.

I used
Rust-Oleum: American Accents in Satin Espresso for the base brown.
Rust-Oleum: American Accents in Silver Metallic for the base silver.
Watered down Anita's Acrylic: Black, Espresso Bean, and another lighter brown that I can't find for the weathering.
All of these were purchased at Hobby Lobby.

the modded zizzle pistol seems like the best bet for those on a budget at the moment

It definitely makes for a nice "stunt" pistol. Hopefully some day I can upgrade to a real deal flintlock, but we'll see what happens. It stays in my sash 99% of the time anyway!

I'm using a nut brown spray paint with a pewter look paint for the 'metal' bits. Wood has come out great however its not blending with the pewter well so its all a learning curve. More coats of it needed wood looks stained and patchy which is what I was going for and the metal so far looks aged and a little rusted. good times.
