Belt question Empty Belt question

Question about belt weight, I searched the wiki.

Are we suppose to be using the 6/7 oz tooling leather or the 8/9 oz tooling leather? I have some 8/9 oz scrap here and it seams really heavy, whereas Jack's looks very "bendy" if that makes sense. Wanted to make sure before I ordered by belt blanks.
