Jack Sparrow's lace
Sorry if this has been discussed before...
Jack Sparrow's lace
We know the story...kinda. As far as I found out, Jack obtained this lace from a Spanish lady in between the events of Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest. It wasn't until On Stranger Tides that we find out that Angelica is that Spanish lady, then starting speculations that the two ex-lovers met(which may or may not be true; depending if one takes the lace into account ).
The only other thing I know is from what Johnny Depp said regarding his OST look...
Reason I'm asking is that I notice that the lace wasn't given the recognition needed down at POTC Wiki(aside from a brief mention in Jack's page). So, as usual, I'm trying to do justice by getting some expansion done by getting this made properly and with good sources.
Thanks in advance for any assistance in understanding the lace.

Here's my question...AM I MISSING SOMETHING?! Meaning...Did I get something wrong or forget any pre-OST info I missed regarding the lace(maaaybe more words from either Penny Rose or Mr. Depp?). Basically, I need to know if there was any other important info regarding this lace?Antique Lace
"When we were doing Pirates 2, the costume designer, Penny Rose, was asking, 'Any changes on anything you want to make?' I saw this tattered lace, 'I'd like to have a piece of that.' She said, 'Where does it come from?' Well clearly it comes from a former lover. In Pirates 4, there's a moment between Penelope and me where she sees this piece of lace, and I'm like, 'Ah, remember this?'"

Re: Jack Sparrow's lace
So, almost 20 views...no one has any say in correction or clarifications regarding the lace?
Re: Jack Sparrow's lace
Disc 2 of the Dead Man's Chest DVD has a feature called "Jack Sparrow from head to toe" in the vingette you see Penny Rose holding both wristwraps and the palm glove through the entire feature. Right before she talks about the rings she mentions that that the lace is a "trophy piece from a young lady" that moment was our first indication as to what it was and to its meaning.
As to making one.... I think each member here has a different lace wrist wrap. Except for me and Jodo we're wristwrap twinsies.

Re: Jack Sparrow's lace
Much obliged for the info!
I just took a look at that feature and a few more questions arise. Ok, Penny Rose did say "...from a young lady." Here's the deal: I recall it written some time before the release of OST that it was "a Spanish lady". Was that true in some way or was it likely something just speculated at the time...in terms of "pre-OST" knowledge, I mean.Mojo Turbo wrote:Disc 2 of the Dead Man's Chest DVD has a feature called "Jack Sparrow from head to toe" in the vingette you see Penny Rose holding both wristwraps and the palm glove through the entire feature. Re: Jack Sparrow's lace
It probably went a little something like this:
Penny Rose: So Johnny you have alot of tattoos. Please go see Ve regarding make up. I can only cover up so much.
Johnny Depp: No problem. I thought I would add a little lace, perhaps this wrist wrap in order to cover up some of my tats.
Penny Rose: Ok. I will see what I can have my team put together.
Johnny Depp goes to see Ve Neill.
Johnny Depp: So Ve I am here for my make up.
Ve Neill: No problem. I figure we can use a little black here, some blood red here. Now for this tattoo we need to cover up "Jack" and add some heavy black here.
Johnny Depp: No problem.
Johnny Depp emerges from costume and make up and runs into Tedd and Terry.
Ted and Terry: Great Johnny you added more to the costume. We have some filler we need to add to OST script so we may need to come up with some back story on that lace piece you have on your left wrist. Perhaps some sort of souvenir left over from one of Jack's conquests? We'll let you know when the script revision is available.
Johnny Depp: Love it!
<And.................scene!>

LOL It probably did
One small flaw...
One small flaw...
Of Jack's costume, nothing regarding the lace was in the OST script....only the ring bit. So unless if I'm missing something, I'm only going to assume the lace bit was Johnny's idea, maybe one of his improvs.Capn_Jack_Savvy wrote:Ted and Terry: Great Johnny you added more to the costume. Ok, now I assume that the "Spanish lady" was (at the time) pure speculation. Thanks again!Mojo Turbo wrote:I don't ever remember hearing that
Re: Jack Sparrow's lace
I always thought the "Spanish lady" was in reference to the flower ring.

Re: Jack Sparrow's lace
In the DMC special feature Mojo mentioned the flower ring is said to have been stolen from a Spanish widow. As far as I know the trophy lace was only ever said to have come from a young lady, and the bit where Johnny mentions it being from Penelope in OST was most likely just an improved line.
As an actor it is fun to come up with little back stories for all the little bits and bobs that can become a part of a costume (I had all sorts of trinkets that I came up with stories for when I played Van Helsing in "Dracula: The Musical?"), but it's usually mostly for the amusement of the actor and nothing to take overly seriously.

You can only imagine how crazy some people get over this stuff...well, aside from costumers, of courseCaptain McAnen wrote:As an actor it is fun to come up with little back stories for all the little bits and bobs that can become a part of a costume (I had all sorts of trinkets that I came up with stories for when I played Van Helsing in "Dracula: The Musical?"), but it's usually mostly for the amusement of the actor and nothing to take overly seriously.
