Fort Downing Trading Company
Since my horrible dealings with Black Bear Historical
Clothing, I have since found The Fort Downing Trading Co. out of
Florida. So far all my emails to them have been answered in an
extremely professional manner,
Some answered within minutes of being sent.
Anyone ever deal with them?

Re: Fort Downing Trading Company
I did years ago. I needed knee breeches for an event (this is all pre-POTC) and placed an order with them in time to get the breeches for the event. However, I never heard anything, and when I contacted them a few weeks later after not having gotten the breeches, they told me my order had been lost and they would make a new pair. Unfortunately they couldn't get them to me in time so I cancelled the order. It left me in a sticky spot so out of principle I never ordered from them again, but I may be inclined to again if they've upped their customer service.

So far I have had fantastic service from Fort Downing Trading Co.
All emails answered in a timely manner, some even answered within moments of being sent!
And my breeches should ship out tomorrow!
DRINKS ALL AROUND!
Much More Better service than Black Bear Historical Clothing!

OI, OI, OI! Received my breeches today from Fort Downing Trading Co. and I could not be more happier!
They are extremely well made, double stitched for durability, and made from some of the nicest, thickest linen I have ever seen!
And they fit like a glove! Perfect in every way! Even have pockets!! I would highly recommend Fort Downing Co. to anyone looking for a
nice pair of breeches. Their email communication though out my entire dealings with them was fantastic!
Some emails where even answered within minutes of being sent!
I ordered white linen, because they said grey linen fabric is too thin, and the white is easy to dye.
Looks like I'll be getting my hands dirty soon, deep in pearl grey dye!
Here they are right out of the mailbox

Hmmm...looks like I may have to give them another go then. I definitely need a second pair of breeches, and the whole Costume base breeches adventure didnt' work out so looks like I'll be giving Ft. Downing another chance. Like I said my experience was years ago, so they clearly have improved.
Re: Fort Downing Trading Company
The only thing these breeches don't have is the strap part around the bottom
of the leg, so they are not SA, but close enough for me for the time being.
I really like the fit, no saggy diaper butt!
If you order a pair, they will want the measurement to
just below the knee, the way traditional broad fall drop front
Breeches where worn. I had them make mine a bit longer,
About 4 inches because Jacks fall well below the knee.

Re: Fort Downing Trading Company
Great to hear! I may have to look into ordering myself a pair from them. I bloody hate making breeches - and while I try really hard to make everything on my costume I can, only buying the stuff that's really out of my skill level to make, I think I may make an exception with the breeches. After making 3 separate pairs (or in some cases having them made by close friends with my help), I'm ready to leave it up to the professionals. And these look really great!
