'Pirates of the Caribbean' Earns $18.5 Million Internationally

The biggest single market for the "Tides" in 3D was Russia, where the opening day registered $5 million, which Disney described as a record first day.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides racked up an $18.5 million opening day gross Wednesday on the foreign theatrical circuit in 10 overseas territories, according to figures reported today by Walt Disney Pictures.
First day offshore box office for the fourth title in the lucrative Pirates series produced by Jerry Bruckheimer beats by nearly 50 percent the comparable opening day tally of the third title in the franchise, 2007’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, which opened in 16 foreign territories.
Biggest single market for the Tides in 3D was Russia, where the opening day registered $5 million, which Disney described as a record first day in the market. The figure was 80 percent above the debut day recorded by At World’s End, which is the top foreign grosser so far of the Pirates titles with an overseas tally of $654 million -- more than double its domestic take.
In the U.K., Tides recorded $3.2 million in its opening day, $3.3 million in France (38 percent above the comparable At World’s End figure in the market), $1.7 million in Italy and $1.3 million in Sweden, the biggest first day figure ever in the market.
The first three titles in the Pirates series – including 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and 2006’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest -- have grossed a total of $2.68 billion worldwide, of which $1.65 billion came from foreign playoff.

The Pirates Plunder $346.4 Million Worldwide in Five Days

$90.1 million in the states and $256.3 million overseas. 3rd behind DMC, $135.6 million, and AWE, $114.7. It will be interesting to see what type of legs it has with the Hangover 2 next holiday weekend. Then you have X-men First Class, Transformers 3, and Green Lantern coming out. Unfortunately the reviews have been medicore with a few exceptions. When I saw it on Friday night at the 7:20 showing over 2/3 of theater was empty. It was 3D but after standing in line I thought it would be packed. Thinking it was a wise move to open with little competition

I'm surprised how moderately it's doing domestically... I expected it to be huge. It bothers me that the Hangover will probably make more than it did in it's opening weekend... people are more entertained by drugs and drinking than fantasy and adventure... Blegh...

But on the bright side... I think it might be the second Pirates to cross the $1b mark... after this weekend it will already be well over $500k.

In TEN DAYS. That's insane... glad the majority of the world still appreciate imagination and fun!!

Disney’s ‘Pirates’ Crosses $600 Million Mark Worldwide

The sequel hit the milestone in its 16th day in theaters.
Setting an industry record for speed, Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides sailed past the $700 million mark at the worldwide box office on Friday, its 16th day in release.

The pic's international cume now stands at $536.7 million, while it has grossed $172.2 million in North America. The global total is $708.9 million.
On Stranger Tides has done especially good business in countries where 3D is thriving, such as Russia and China.
The franchise installment is easily the top-grossing movie of the year at the global box office. Universal's Fast Five ranks No. 2 at $547.2 million.

Oh yeah... POTC 5&6 are definitely going to happen now...as will more I suspect.

I"m surprised they haven't done an animated spinoff yet. Back when the animated style figures appeared I thought for sure we were going to see a POTC cartoon series that brings Jack to a younger audience. I'm sure they have thought about it...wonder why they haven't done it.

And I do know of the Gentle Giant maquettes you speak of Capn Jag. I'm sorry I never picked any of them up..

That's what I thought... that there had been talk of a cartoon... In addition to the Gentle Giant statues there was this line of Dead Men Tell No Tales figures by Zizzle as well as some kids activity books and sets that had the same animated look to them.

It's like they did all this prep work to set up for an animated series but then decided to drop it... Maybe that's why they did the Young Jack Sparrow adventures...

That $1b mark is getting closer and closer... worldwide, movies last over 100 days in release... it seems almost impossible to NOT hit it.
