Vendor Questiony/Advice
Greetings shipmates. I hope that I'm posting this in the correct area, if not my apologies. Ive been active in the Reble Legion (known for there screen acurate Star Wars costumes)for a few years, but I'm new to the Captain Jack costuming world and was wondering if anyone has ever bought products from the website " thepirateempire.com " and if so what are your thoughts when it comes to there boots or the wig they sell?

Re: Vendor Questiony/Advice
Sorry mate, but all items I see on their webpage are not screenaccurate at all.
The vest has a wrong pattern and the buttons and pockets are completely wrong. The boots are like cowboyboots and they are not made out of suede leather. The toe and the tip are not screenaccurate, too.
And another example: The baldric and sword-set they offer is too expensive, because it´s a Costume-base baldric with a buckle far too small; also the sword is not screenaccurate. Both items are "stand alone" available for less money regarding their complete set price.

Re: Vendor Questiony/Advice
That is basicly what I thought about the boots and as I learned with my Star Wars Jedi costuming that research is paramount. Also to give you all a frame of refrence I plan to do a COTBP version of the good captain since it appears to be a good version for a first time Jack costume, and I can build up from there.
It also may go w/o saying but what are the opinions of CAboots? They look great and everyone seams to approve of them but just to cover my basses how well do they hold up to the eliments (since they are suede), how comfortable are they, and what is the biggest differance between the two different "cost" versions? (I.E.- the Custom Captain Jack Sparrow ones for $500 or the Pirates II Jack Sparrow Tan Pirate Boots (A1) for $360).

That's the kind of sound advice you'll git round these parts! Welcome to the Court!
Re: Vendor Questiony/Advice
So what would you all recomend as far as accurate quality boots go? I was concidering the CAboots but after reading the Horror stories about their quality and poor customer service I'm not sure where to look. Wherever I go to get them my issue is that I have LARGE calve muscles and would need a custome size option.

Hi
I ended up getting CAboots and I'm very happy with them and the service. I think where most people have problems is with there custom boots; that seems to cause nothing but grief. I bought the stock set and had no problems. They stay up without boot straps, didn't take too long to arrive and fit lovely. Right toe shape and correct heel. They may cost more but you will be happy with them and save money in the long term.

Wow so I did! Must have been a slip of the hand on this touch screen Nook, or I can just blame it on the rum. Oops. Ha ha.
I figure that the only issue I will have with stock is what size diameter the calf area is. Moast of the time I can't find any mens boots with large calf space and normal foot size. ( I.E. size 11-11.5 with a 7-9" diameter calf ( I think) give or take a bit for pant leg thickness)

Re: Vendor Questiony/Advice
I understand that you tend to get what you pay for but I am on a "don't upset the Good Wife" budget plan.
So for my phase one version I expect to spend the most $ on some good quality COTBP Capt Jack boots and wig set up and will upgrade everything else around them over time.
So besides trying to figure out if i will role the dice on some stock CAboots, custom CAboots, or another vendors version I'm also currently trying to get my small parts/vendor list together. So far I have been every where from Amazon for the MR rings to Yordreem for the wig and as in the Star Wars world there are tons of options out there. What tends to be the prefered way to get the various parts andnot get burned?

Re: Vendor Questiony/Advice
Hey guys I emailed the following to CAboots the other day regarding a set of stock Jack Sparrow boots
"I am intrested in purchasing a pair of your stock Capt. Jack pirates II boots in size 11 but I don't know if they will fit my calf dimensions of about 19" in diameter. Would they fit?"
And Joey Sanchez said the following
"Just include a note with your order and we will cut the boots to your calf size."
Anyone else ever deal with these guys in this aspect? I ask because of all the trouble storries I have read about regarding any order that is "Customised".

Re: Vendor Questiony/Advice
After reading all the different experiences with CABoots, both good and bad, I decided to place an order for their custom pirate boots. I dealt directly with Priscilla. She was awesome and spent a crap-ton of time on the phone and in emails with me making sure we worked everything out to get exactly what I wanted. Let me just say that I am completely and totally in awe of their product and service. I know, I sound like a paid advertisement for CABoots, but they were just that good. I had quite the opposite experience as a few of the folks around here with horror stories with their custom orders. Priscilla walked me through everything I needed on the phone to place an order for the exact boots they made for Johnny in POTC. She also explained that they made eight different pairs of boots for Johnny. And since they were all custom, there were slight differences between each. If there is a specific boot you want from the films, you just need to supply them with the reference pic of the film boots you want.
I received my boots in just under a month, and they were exactly what I ordered. They stay up without boot straps no problem. Well, at least for now. Maybe after I've worn them in for a couple years they might slouch a bit. Speaking of which, if you want that slouched ankle look Johnny's boots have in the films, make sure you add a few inches to the length of the shaft when you place your order (if you are placing a custom order).
I, myself, am partial to the COTBP Jack look. That is the costume I put together. I prefer the uncomplicated look. Plus, there are fewer trinkets to acquire that tend to empty your wallet!
